Starting circuit solenoids/relays 85PT40
Had ANOTHER starting problem this weekend. When the DD is cranked
over, it sounds like it is barely able to turn the Detroit, clink
clink clink. The motor is turning but not SPINNING.

In the past months I have added in this order-
1.)a 4/0 wire from the batterys to the starter solenoid
2.)a 4/0 ground wire to the starter
3.)a new starter and solenoid

Today, I replaced 2 solenoids that are located on the aft-cross
member(under the engine pan), inside the frame rail. They did not
appear to be "continous duty" solenoids. However, to be on the safe
side, replaced them both with 80 amp continous duty solenoids, Borg
Warner part# S55.

The DD started fine after that install. It started fine after each
of the above repairs. But then it would revert to the clink-clink-
clink. When it starts like that, seems to be a very large amp draw
intermittently, the amp gage needle actaully bounces with the
revolutions of the starter/DD.

Someone on here changed these solenoids not long ago.

What, exactly, are they for?

Thanks
