advice needed on "unscrewing" sewer pipe from black tank etc.

Forum members whove done messed with grey and black tanks.
I am about to put on drainmasters and have all the ABS pipe and elbows
etc...I am concerned that I have to get off the "screw in" connector
attached to the black tank....question..is there a special tool
neede?? looks like ma big nut is attached to the black tank...does
the screw attach to that? does any of this make sense...for anyone
who has tackled this job..any cautions for me??? I am about to dump
and flush my tanks and start the job in a couple hours....hope Tom

I built a toy box trailer and had holding tanks built to my specs. The
big nut was spun to the tank (spinning created heat to milt the two
together). A fitting screwed into the big nut. Pipe, dump valves, etc.
were glued to the fitting.

My guess is the BIG NUT is glued to your tank. Is the pipe/fitting
threaded where it meets the big nut? If so, a strap wrench might grip
enough to turn the pipe. No threads would indicate the pipe/fitting is
glued to the big nut. In that case you would need to cut the pipe
leaving enough pipe to attach a coupling.

My experience with the FC tanks is that the fitting is mounted to the
tank permanently. The fitting on the tank is a white PVC part, and
the original pipe is black ABS. I have had no problem cutting the
black pipe flush with the fitting, slotting the pipe using a spiral-
cut bit on a dremmel (or equivalent) from the inside of the pipe,
then driving a screwdriver between the pipe and fitting to pop the
pipe pieces loose. The fitting should be un-damaged and can be
prepped to glue in a new pipe.

This is fairly easy if you are careful, as seeing white means you're
through the pipe and into the PVC fitting. In my experience the
original glue doesn't hold very well between the two plastics and
removal is pretty clean.

Make it easy to service in the valve and plumbing in your
installation, the Drainmaster is a fairly fragile valve which can be
damaged by a hit to the plumbing. You might want to leave plenty of
pipe to cut and re-fit a new valve in the future and putting some
type of guard under the pipe and valve should help to protect the it.
