I had an old Bluebirder tell me that he always added powered Spick 'N Span to
his tank. He said it cleaned the tank as he drove the coach. I had forgotten this until your post. Susan Guidry New Orleans 2007 M380 ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Susan, i wonder if the Spic and Span would do anything to the seals? If not-
that's on my shopping list. Ernie Ekberg 83PT40 Livingston, Mt - ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

I also get a terrible black tank odor in the coach. Our coach has the
Microphor air toilet. To add water after flushing the tank, or to completely fill the tank and flush it, I drilled a hole in the black tank vent pipe. The hole is 5/8'. I carry a short hose to fit that hole and attach it to a garden hose. The hole is covered with a piece of rubber and a couple clamps. The tank vent pipe runs up behind the refrigerator and can be accessed through the frig. side cover. I'm experimenting to find out what works to clean the tank and get rid of the odor. Right now the tank is filled with a baking soda/water solution. I used two pounds of baking soda. I'll leave this in the tank for a couple days and will be a happy camper if this helps get rid of the odor. I may try a Clorox solution next. Then Water Softener along with an enzyme detergent as George Witt suggested. The theory is the softener will loosen up built-up in the tank and coat the tank as well. I'll post more as I go along. Do you have a washer/dryer that goes into the black tank?

Ok. I read about a vent fan called Lil Stanker. It is supposed to keep
positive pressure up the vent pipe to eliminate odors. I know nothing about it except what I have read. I thought maybe your washer/dryer trap may have been dry. I have the same toilet without problems. Little Stanker is one of them little computer fans that keeps vacuum on the vent
pipe. The mfr. makes two versions, one type installs in series in the pipe, the other replaces the vent pipe cover. That's probably the easier one to work with. I got one on the toter home, solved a bad problem I had. I had the dry trap experience when I removed the Spendid from the fifth wheel, whew, real bad. Blank Tank Odor/Filling & Microphor Toilet
Curt,
When I purchased my coach the black tank was about half full. I think it had been that way for a while but no gas odor in the coach thank goodness. When you flushed it was rough. I emptied the tank washed it out with water a couple times and then closed the valve. I added about a half bottle of Dawn dish detergent and 35 gallons of water and went for an 80 mile ride. When I got back I emptied it and have not had a problem since. I pulled the toilet afterwards to put in a new china unit and no bad smell at all. It's good to do this to the gray tank also. When we are at a park near home I dump and wash out then add the Dawn and 35 gal. of water wash the tank on the way home. Fortunately I have a sewer dump in my shop.
