Winter Fuel CockTail?
Hello all,
Sadly, I'm about to park and cover the coach for the next several months. I want to make sure the fuel winters well. The tank is full (265 gallons). I have had no issues with fuel so far. The coach has been running great. The fuel in the tank is fresh and untreated. My local heavy truck counter recommended the following cocktail * PS (Power Service) Diesel Fuel supplement (80 oz bottle) http://www.powerservice.com/dfs/ * Winter Warrior Ice O- Dry (isopropyl alcohol) 12 OZ * Power Service Bio Kleen (5 oz.) Is this a good recommendation? Is there a better cocktail? Does it really matter? Is it necessary to drive the coach around to mix this stuff up after putting it in? Today may be my last opportunity to drive her before the DOT starts spreading s--t all over the roads. Also, the fuel filters have been in place for about 3,000 miles and one year. There are not issues. Should I leave these alone for now or change them? Your input is always appreciated. Thanks - Bill NH 1983 FC 35 "Casa Billisa" |

Winter Fuel CockTail?
Bill,
In my 78, which i sold, all I did was put in some anti-gel stuff and drove it long enough to mix it up and pull it through the filters. I had a gas generator on that coach. This year I added a gallon of anti gel stuff that claims to be good for 300 gallons of fuel. I drove it to mix it up and ran the diesel generator during the ride as well. One time I took my '78 on a December trip and woke up to 14 degree weather. It was tough to start, put out a white cloud that could have hidden the entire Naval fleet during an invasion, but ran fine once warmed up. It also depends on weather the last time you fueled up if the station had winter blend in the tanks. I don't know when they start supplying that, I guess it depends on the state. Winter Fuel CockTail?
Bill,
I use the Power Service products all the time since the advent of ULSD. I usually add the the supplement first then fill up to mix things well. We have operated in temperatures as low as -14 with no problems. The bio kleen is probably a good idea if your BB is going to sit for several months. But it also needs to be mixed in AND circulated through the fuel lines, injection pump, and filters or you could still have a problem. I would take a Sunday drive run it out about 100 miles, pour every thing in and fill it up from a high speed pump to mix things up, and run back in to circulate it through the fuel system.
