135th Kentucky Derby
Hi Folks,

Just wondering.. Is anyone planning on attending the 135th Kentucky Derby? If
so, we can plan a small meet and greet.

I just made my campground reservations. This will be my first time attending.
[I'm working on my bucket list!]

Does anyone have any advice on tickets, places to eat, traditions or anything
that will help enrich the experience?

Thanks!

Nate, not sure that you have time but see if you can join the "Kentucky Colonels". They are a national charitable organization and at the the Derby they do it right for a small charge. Mint juleps the whole nine yards they evendress the part of the old south it is a terrific time at the track. They do have a web site.

Nate, As a local I try to avoid the Kentucky Derby, but Thunder Over Louisville
is way more fun & it's FREE. TOL is April 18 this year, it is usually 2 full
weeks before the derby, it is the Kentucky Derby Festival kickoff. Air Show
starts around 3:00 & Fireworks at 10:00, pretty much a full day of events on &
over the Ohio River. If your coming in for the Derby give me a shout we can get
together, if you can make it for Thunder let me know. Most locals go to the
Oaks which is on Friday, we save the Derby for all the out of town rich folk.
Tickets for the stands maybe obtained from Churchill Downs if any are left.
They usually go QUICK, go online for Churchill Downs and see what you can find,
scalpers are always in the area, if you want to go low budget go for the
infield, much cheaper, but more down to earth party folks. Where did you make
RV reservations? KOA is the only place really close but it is real tight - it
is about a 50 yo RV park so it is like stacking firewood. Charlestown SP is 25
miles away from the Downs so you would need a toad. If I can help let me know.
