onan wiring harness help

have you tried turning off all the circuit breakers in the coach?
when you hook up the harness, is the source selector in the coach on generator?
or do you have the automatic switch over box? make sure you have no load
attached to the generator when you connect the harness,,, that will be the first
step in troubleshooting the thing. if the problem still persists with your
being absolutely sure there is no load on the system, it will tell you it is in
the wiring. if the problem goes away, first switch on the gen select to gen
(if you have the manual selector)
then,start turning on circuit breakers until you see which one loads
down the generator. good hunting,,, day jax fl 83 pt-40

Good morning,

I have an 88 fc with an 8 kw onan.\ That has problems associated with the
wiring harness
that goes from the onan control board to the gauges inside the coach..


When the wiring harness is connected at the genny, the fault breaker trips
after 30 sec.
The real curious thing is that the genny keeps running with the breaker tripped.
( I am
going to test the breaker today, as I think this is a seperate issue?) Anyway,
another
symptom is the when the wiring harness is connected, the genny runs like it has
a big load
on.... the engine souds more loaded than it does with both airs running. I have
tested all
the fault sensor that are located on the generator. and they are working fine.


So, My questions are,,,

Does the genny have fault sensors other than the ones on the generator itself?
If so where are the located, and How do I troubleshoot them?
Are there any other things I can try or look for?

Mark,

I suggest that you go to the newsgroup, rec.outdoors.rv-travel and
ping Alan Robinson. Alan is in the generator business and knows Onan
generators inside and out. He is very helpful. It seems like the more
knowledgeable people that were here have left or are not answering
tech questions any more...
