Fuel Pressure/Vacuum on PT models
Hello all,

This situation has me stumped-- Since purchasing my bird in 2004, I've
always seen a moderate to high reading on the Racor vacuum guage, which
routinely puts the dial in the high yellow zone or low red. I've
replaced both fuel filters 4-5 times a year, flushed the fuel tank, and
replaced the gauge. Fuel seems to flow easily from the bowl when I
drain the Racor (the lid is still on, so it is pulling fuel from the
tank) and I just cannot seem to fathom where the restriction is. Has
anyone ever experienced this?

Consider replacing all flexible fuel line. It will deteriorate over time and
can cause restrictions. Larger diameters on the low side (suction) of the fuel
column can be a positive modification.

Shane,
I experienced this unusually high vaccum reading also...

At the Racor, removed the line that comes from the fuel tank. Put
the rubber tipped air chuck into the hose from the fuel tank,
blasted it with 100psi, no more problems.

I left the fuel fill cap on in the event that the tank vent needed a
good blowing out. Then removed fuel fill cap and repeated blow out
procedure.

That was May 1 2005.

Been 5,000 miles since with no problems.

Keep that Racor filter changed and always use Lucas fuel treatment,
but do not use more than the instructions indicate. 1 gallon treats
400 gallons of fuel. Don't be tempted to dump in the whole gallon.

The Lucas treatment has kept the fuel system cleaner than the Power
Serve(I think thats the common stuff) While using the power serve
additive through a winter storage, experienced significant algae
problems. NO algae problems since using Lucas treatment...

Also, take the bottom bowl off the Racor, remove and clean the
Turbine Centrifuge/Conical Baffle (see

r_tbn_assm900fg.html for a picture and description)

I found this centrifugel/baffle to be full of algae. It simply
inscrews from the Racor for easy cleaning with brake cleaner and
compressed air. There is a check ball about 3/8" diameter that sits
up in the there, comes out with the Turbine Centrifuge/Conical
Baffle. Check that alage hasn't made a home keeping the check ball
from performing properly...

Thanks a Bunch Jay!

I did pull a ton of rust out of the tank when I flushed it. I
guess some of those particles could be resting in the low points of
the fuel line or even jammed in there sideways forming a clot. I
disassembled the bowl and cleaned all components with brake kleen
last year hoping that would fix the problem. I even switched from 2
micron to 10 micron filters, but the vacuum was the same. I'll try
blowing out the line next time I'm at my garage.
