Alternator / charging help
When I took the Bird in for an oil change, tune up etc I noticed that
the belt for the front alternator (ALT #1) was off, lying on the frame. Had Inland Diesel replace all belts and this alternator was brought back on line. When we started the Bird this morning there was no charge at all to any batteries either coach side or engine side. Is there a relay that might be hanging up or circuit breaker that is easy to over look? We took off ALT #1 and are having it checked as we type. Thanks Steve Quandt 93 PT-40 Iron Mountain, MI |

Alternator / charging help
Steve, On my 93 the #1 alternator is the one on the right side of the
coach down low next to the rear bumper. The #2 Alternator is the one on the left side of the coach that's really hard to get to usually done thru the bedroom floor. This #1 and #2 Alternator position corresponds to the alternator charge indicator on the dash pane Usually if you have problem's with the system it's the #2 alternator It has a very long cable and is somewhat undersized. When it goes bad it's easy to just take the belt off and forget it.??? and rely on the #2 which is easy to change and work on. If they had the belt off (not sure which one) chances are their was a reason. Check your voltage on the large electrical bus panel on the firewall by the battery, this will tell you how much and which gen is putting out. Good luck...Bob 93pt, Illinois > > When I took the Bird in for an oil change, tune up etc I noticed that > the belt for the front alternator (ALT #1) was off, lying on the > frame.
