Leroy Eckert Has Given Me WB40 Fever
After seeing Leroy's WB40 'Bird of the week my pulse started to run a
litle quicker. Man, that's a great looking 'Bird I thought. Then I
started thinking about having the extra volume and horsepower and I got
a little bit excited.

Just a passing fancy I told myself, took two asprin and went to bed.
The next morning I still had the fever. Repeated the asprin process
for a few days without any luck. Found myself looking at WB40 listings
on the net the following week.

I think I may be reaching critical condition with only one possible
cure.

Therefore, I am asking the WB40 folks if they would be kind enough to
inform me of the differences between WB40 model years, floorplans,
opitons, changes and any other nuaunces that may be of interest for a
perspective buyer to know.

Thanks for the kind comments. We work very hard to improve our
Bird. When we were looking we previewed 15 Bluebirds from 89-94.
Most had center isle plans. There is a side isle plan. I personally
prefer the center isle. If I do not chose to look at the bed I can
shut the door. Our coach has several options and upgrades
1. Outside entertainment center
2. Aux air pump---keeps the air up when the engine is not running.
We rarely use the leveling system.
3. Seperate compressor and tank for the toilet air.
4. Washer/ dryer-- We use it constantly--We have found that
continuous use cleans the waste tank and keeps our level indicators
clean and indicating properly. We do not have a back wash tank
system.
5. Outside gas grill. Not all coaches we viewed had one. We use it.
6. All natural oak interior. No laminate. Tile in kitchen and
bath.
7. Check the Primus system. Call Steve Birtles to ask questions. We
converted to Wabasto. Check the blower motors for the hydronic
system.
8. Today you should find one with in motion sat system. We rarely
plug up to cable unless a tree restricts our signal.
9.And all the standard Bluebird bells and whistles. Horns, this that
and the other.

Go for it, you will love it.

As you may know, Vintage Birds <http://www.vintagebirds.com> has year
by year lists of changes. (e.g. post 1980 = air suspension; 1988
appears to be the first WB model). Click the link to "history" and
you can open descriptions for each year from 1963 to present. For
instance, 1995 appears to be the first year that they offered the DD
Series 60 engine in the WB-42 (I have a diagonal aisle floor plan,
hence WBDA.) In my case, I felt the Series 60 was an advantage (but
not a critical point) so that was a 'plus' in my decision process in
selecting my BB.

When I was considering buying a used 'bird, I checked over this
history listing to determine what features were important to me and
what features weren't. It helped me narrow down my choices ... of
course, some flexibility is also required. At some point, an
opportunity for a particular coach may present itself that may make
some compromise in your particular selection. Remember, too, that
mechanical condition is more important than particular features or
floor plan.

I will say, having 470 hp to cross mountains was an important
consideration to me -- as I expect to spend much of my time in the
western half of the U.S. due to family commitments, etc.

Leroy, Pete: Thanks, I have decided to start the search.

Vintagebirds.com is filled with a lot of info, it's a very helpful
site indeed. I like all of the options that Leroy has on his bus.
Makes sense to me to be able to keep the air pressue steady while
parked. Thanks again for the insights.
