Big Birds in California
Tom, California did not allow out of state drivers to enter without
the proper limits as in state drivers. If prior to this year you drove a +40 foot motorhome in the state you were required to have any state commercial Class B or California Housecar endorsement. Without it you were risking impound. California increased the size limit to 45 foot last month. The +10K trailer issue is also valid for out of state vehicles and Drivers http://www.dmv.ca.gov/about/lad/pdfs/hou...r_isor.pdf The RV industry fought hard to keep our state from allowing only safe and healthy drivers behind the wheel. Every time I am asked for my license, I am asked to present a current (less than 24 month old) physical statement. I think the requirement for the physical check up limits consumption to 1,000 donuts per year or 1,800 dounts between the visits. The pdf above may be a good print out to keep onboard for the longer than 40 footers in the event they find a need to convince a CHP or local city commercial officer of the new law. Most CHP I meet are great people. I was running dirt loads overtop of my dump truck comming out of a gated city because I was limited to finish my task by 5 pm as the working class must vacate the city by that time (canyon Lake). A CHP cycle officer pulled me over and I explained my time limits and the fact that I must get back in the city by 5 pm to clean up the work site. He replied "Oh no, then let me hurry up and write this ticket, and have a nice day" prick Gregory O'Connor 94ptRomolandCa show load ticket $280.00 --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Tom McCarthy" > > Howard, > > Pete already gave you the answer that I would give. Greg, That sounds almost as good as Randy's explaination of the malfunctioning speedometer (disconnected)while driving his "PICKUP", to the cop on US301 in Florida, this came just a few miles after Randy pointed out to me the bilboard signs WARNING about the speed traps located just down the road....it was a classic!! That Cummins and ten speed makes for a real cruiser and I must admit, it doesn't seem like you are going that fast either, but you know I can't let Randy forget about that, after all what are friends for??? By the way, in all of the ridding and acting the tourist roll up here in the Black Hills, I haven't seen another 'Bird anywhere around here, but then I wouldn't venture out on most of the roads that I have been on with a 'Bird, they can be very narrow with 10 mph switchbacks in places, you have to really pay attention to the warning signs that are posted, on the other habd ridding my motorcycle on these roads is a blast. Today I will extend my stay here for another week. John Finn Finn's Inn Express '82 35FCRB BLUEBIRD WANDERLODGE "ON THE ROAD IN ANGOSTURA SRA, S.D."
