Ramco Mirror 94pt

Hi Greg,

I was polishing one of my Ramco mirrors a few weeks ago, and the entire
mirror housing (head) popped out, and the entire unit fell to the driveway and
broke the glass and put a big dent in the top of the head. Needless to say, I
needed to replace the entire head. Ramco was very helpful (except for the
price!), and they sent out a new unit (no mounting arm or plate). It included
the two piece metal ball cups (probably not a good term). My opinion...go
with the metal cups/bushing. I ordered another set for the other side. If you
are always fine tuning your rear view mirror like me, I'm sure the metal
bushings will last a lot longer and probably give more bite in holding the
mirror
in place than the old plastic cups.

BTW, the new mirror head (includes new glass, non-heated) with the new
bushings was $190.00, which included an extra $30 for the etched BB logo on the
front of the mirrors. an expensive fix for just trying to polish the mirrors
and tryng to make the old BB look good.

As for the stripped set screws, I'd suggest trying to re-drill and retap
first. You could always send it back to Ramco for them to do it (heliarc), or
just order some new mounting arms. Might be just as cheap.

Ramco has helped me on a few other occasions, and it is sure nice to still
get parts and the good service for something as old as our (my) BB.

My Ramco Mirror on the drivers side wobbled lose. There is a black
plastic socket liner in the swivel below the mirror frame. This plastic
was broken when I tried to retract the frame. The set screw is jammed
in the thread. I guess there is oxidation holding it jammed??? I called
Ramco the mirror maker 1-800-321-4819. They are sending free plastic
ball sockets out 2 pieces for each mirror. I asked for the upgrade
suggested by RandyD. The aluminum up grades are $5.04 each. I kept the
plastic as I fear the aluminum will eat up or polish the ball if it is
spun. ($20.16 is another fear.)The Ramco parts person "Kim" was nice
and suggested I not retap for an oversized setscrew. she said they
drill and use helicoils in the repairs????? I can only guess that the
stainless helicoil with a stainless set will help the screw not get
jammed????
Ramco parts "Kim" had the part number by just giving her the make and
year of the bus. she said my 94 is a series 6000 mirror (this post is
made for search reference I will followup when I do the repair)
