'81 FC air leak
Howdy Crew,
Well, I got the Bird moved into its garage for the winter and when I parked it, there was a sizeable air leak (noise) coming from the front end. Upon investagation, I found the leak coming from whats looks like a small vaccum solenoid that appears to be on the end of an air manifold. It is on the drivers side, pretty much inside and just above the step hole in the bumper. I think the manifold distributes air to the suspension. The air is leaking out of a small (1/8") tube coming out of the bottom of this gizmo. Any ideas? It's cold here and I suppose an ice crystal could be in there, but what is this thing, what does it do, why is it leaking air? What is the meaning of life. Any and all input is appreciated. I am thinking it might be the cruise control. Does the cruise work? My vacuum
unit set right behind the foot step of the bumper. I recently bought a new vacuum unit from john blakey Motors but have not installed it as of yet. you can take it off start the bird and see if it doesn't start leaking air at about 75 pounds. if you plug it it will go to regular pressure re brake 1983 fc-35 sb " sagecoach" > > From: "doug_ngl" > Date: 2006/11/27 Mon PM 08:55:00 EST > To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [WanderlodgeForum] '81 FC air leak > > Howdy Crew, > Well, I got the Bird moved into its garage for the winter and when I > parked it, there was a sizeable air leak (noise) coming from the front > end. Doug,
It may be the vacuum generator for the cruise control. They use the flow of air past an oriface to generate vacuum. I was told that if it continues to leak then there may be a leak in the cruise control system. Doug,
Mine does the same thing. I have an 81 as well. It's normal from what I read on here. There has been much talk about that noise on these forums recently--Kerry will probably chime in.. I believe he took his vacuum generator out and replaced the cruise control with another system. I am going to try to get mine working here soon, by replacing all my vacuum lines going to and from it. Yep, it's the vacuum generator. You've been messing with the cruise control
haven't you!! If there's a leak in the cruise control system, it will cause the generator to bleed off. It also could be bad vacuum generator. They are NO LONGER AVAILABLE. Plug the main line coming out of generator and see if the leak stops. If it does, there's a leak somewhere up in the cruise control system. kerry 82 fc 35 Denver --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Gardner Yeaw" > > Doug, > It may be the vacuum generator for the cruise control. Are you saying you found a replacement vacuum generator? If so, can you give me
the phone number or website for the source. Everyone I checked with said they are no longer available and I'm about to install an electric cruise. I think you can get a replacement vacuum from john bleckly motors in macon. i
will get the name and number of the contact and send on. re brake "sagecoach" > > From: "davidkerryedwards" > Date: 2006/11/27 Mon PM 10:37:45 EST > To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [WanderlodgeForum] Re: '81 FC air leak > > Yep, it's the vacuum generator.
