PEX Revisited

This week we had to have our water line to the house replaced. While
talking to the plumber he mentioned that he had just come from repairing a
motor home that had had damaged plumbing from freezing over the winter. He
said that it had PEX in it but that the brass couplings burst. The owner
thought that because he had PEX plumbing he was safe.

While PEX is great stuff, it isn't impervious to mis-handling. It's
more forgiving than most other water pipes, but freezing can still
cause damage. When water freezes, it takes more space than when it is
in the liquid state. If it is restrained, it will split or damage
whatever constrains it. If you don't heat the coach, you must
winterize it regardless of the plumbing type.
