84FC35 water pump (house)
A while back someone mentioned a $10.00 rebulid kit for the house water
pump in my Bird. Anyone familiar with that? The pump works okay most
of the time but overloads the 12v circuit breaker, especially when
running hot water. So I'm guessing it's overheating? Thought I would
try fixing before replacing.

Keith
Hot water never goes through the pump, just cool water out of the tank. You're
right though, it could be over heating.
I just purched a '85 PT 36 and thought I had pump problems. After much study of
the drawings I realized it was
cockpit trouble - forgot to restore the "fill" switch.

Bt the way, had my phone call been 3 hours earlier you coach would be mine. But
everything works out - I'm happy
with what I got.

I know. Sorry about that. Things are coming along nicely but I
still have a lot to do. And I suppose I'll never run out of stuff to
do... I really wanted a PT but couldn't justify the $$. I'll get
there one day. My pump works okay but trips the breaker when I'm in
the shower and I have to stand there like a doofus for about 20
seconds. Then it comes back on.

Lucky it's a circuit breaker and not a fuse!

Is your pump running continuously, cycling slowly or cycling rapidly?

Keith, I wonder if the rebuild kit would help.I think it is only for
the pump side and not the dc motor side? Building up against a head
or too much pressure would cause a big amp draw and or the
bearings/bushings in the motor are shot????? I think if the pump is
weak it would only run feewheeled too much and not be a big amp draw

84FC35 water pump (house)
Keith,
If you still have the original house water pump (separate motor with pump drive
belt) I
suggest you replace it with a new unit rather than rebuild the old one. Some
folks like to
keep their Birds as original as possible, but when it comes to invisible
components like
this pump, I usually go with new technology hardware. You will find newer pumps
like
those from FloJet and Shurflo run smoother, quieter and will give you more
capacity. I
installed a new FloJet variable speed pump a few months ago and it has been
great.
