Zip Dee question

[Gardner Yeaw]

My big awning rolls out fine. I extend the front rafter arm and the
hook on the end drops down over the shaft where it enters the head,
holding the awning in the extended position.

The rear rafter arm, however, has the hook facing upwards so it
engages the shaft from the bottom. The arm is supported only by a
short section of the hook and therefor could drop on someone's head at
any time, probably mine.

Is this the way it should be? I looked at the Zip Dee site diagrams,
but they only show the front arm and the parts catalog doesn't
differentiate between the front and rear parts.

I have the older curved style.

Been getting extra window awnings all around. Been cleaning my big
awnings and I think your problem is the hook portion is on backwards.
It slides off the portion attached to the side of bus. Take it out
and turn it around. Should solve the problem.

While we're on awnings, anyone know a trick for stretching awning
fabric? Two of my window awnings will not come out far enough to
hook them open, but I have seen a picture of them out so I know that
they did reach once upon a time. Suggestions?

Do they come down far enough for a flap of fabric to hang below the roller
assembly?

Well, I don't know. If the awning is extending fully one could conclude the
awning material is ok, or it would not extend to its original length. Perhaps
the strap itself shrunk some, but I wouldn't know why.???? My mount straps are
pretty tight.

Thinking again, if the awning did shrink it would fully extend on the roller but
not to its original intended position causing the strap to be short. I think.

Bob,
When your awning is closed how is the rafter arm secured?

On mine there is a bolt in the main arm extending at a 45 degree
angle upward. The hook on the rafter arm is flat against the main arm
when stored. If I reversed it the hook would be about an inch away
and it would put quite a bit of sideways stress on it.

Zip Dee sells replacement straps in 2 lengths, 32" & 42" for the window awnings.
The longer straps could be shortened to work.
