Well I will give my two cents worth on this subject. When I got my
motor home the rear tires were almost 10 years old and looked like
they were new. But I followed everyone advice and replaced those
with brand new TOYO tires cost around 1200 dollars. After the tires
were replaced I took my old tires home and checked them out and I saw
no sign of wear on the inside or outside. Mine were not rotten but I
have heard that the steel ribs inside the rubber tend to deteriorate
and that is where the problems lies on. Its to bad that one can't
have these expensive tires tested somehow to see what they really are
like at 7 years or 8 or god forbid 10 years.

So in my final conclusion is to go with flow and do your own
researching on this subject. New tires are expensive and most of the
time our machines are sitting ideal as our poor expensive tires just
rot away!!!!!

Oh yes my old tires are somewhere on the road taking care of an old
dump truck and probably doing just fine. Oh well I can ride with
piece of mine with my now two year old tires.

Tire age vs wear
OK Guys, I am going to go for new tires. It was my intention to do
so in the beginning and I got talked out of it by the tire dealer (of
all people)? And no it was not just one of the boys. I tend to not
argue with experts in their fields but lets face it, it's my
responsibility and my back side as well. I am taking the bus to a
local trucking center Friday for an oil change and filters. I'll get
the skinny on new tires. I am going to have to do some wheel changes
as well. I have tube tires in the back and tubeless up front. I
guess now is the time to go for Alcoa's and get every all the same.
Gonna hurt the ole pocket but lets face it, it has to be done.
Thanks again for all the help and "priceless" information. Now I
have to figure out all the issues with the studs, hubs, wheels etc.
Anyone have info on what I will need?

I have 12R's on the steer, 11R's on drive and tag. Would it be possible to run
the 12's on the tag with 11's on the drive and put new 12's on the

Tire age vs wear
I am looking at tires: Yokahoma RY617 and Mich. XZ1 which are steer
tires and I am planning on using them as all position. I am getting
prices in the area of $375 to $400 out the door a tire. This sound
about right? I have some wheel issues to sort out but I am going to
move forward on this.

I paid $375.00 each for my Sumitomo ST 727 12Rx22.5. I haven't seen anything for
less that I would buy.

Tire age vs wear
I use the Yokohama RYO23. They are probably about the same price, but
I have had good service with them. Have used them on two coaches.
