I can't help you with the inspection, but IMO I would not drive or take a limo to Osceola (near South Bend), that is at least a 2 hour drivelonger if you hit theChicago traffic wrong. Fly through Chicago to South Bend, probably won't cost you much more that just to Chicago. I am confident you will find a number of connections to South Bend, home of Norte Dame University.

I know this is not close to what we discuss on the Bluebird Forums
but I need some help. I have made a purchase on Ebay for a Pump Truck for my new Biodiesel Venture. It has a 3208 Cat rebuilt engine with 12k miles since the factory rebuild. I need someone familiar with big trucks to go by and do an inspection. So a recommendation would be greatly appreciated. It is located in Osceola, IN. I have emailed the seller trying to find out what airport to fly in. Looking at the map, Chicago seems like the one to fly in. My next problem is what transport service should I call for a ride from the airport to him? He gave me United limo Service but I don't think a limo is appropriate. I am still trying to get a phone number for him so that I can coordinate the transaction. He is really not cooperating at this point and I am not going to send $500 deposit till I have more information and allowed the inspection! You should be able to take a regional into Elkhart.
Truck don't look so bad. Should be an interesting road trip home. Get oil and filters changed and don't sweat it. It don't get any better for what you want to do.

I would recommend using a little extra caution on inspecting/purchasing anything related to biodiesel or ethanol at present. While most folks are honest, some are using the current raging popularity of these technologies to take advantage in various ways. I don't know if this item was advertised as being specifically related to this sort of usage, but if so, a little extra caution may be in order.

Call the Osceola Napa or Cat Dealer, get to the parts clerk and ask
for the name of an independent mobile mechanic. Surprizing how many individual parts stores in the same area give you the same name. In the 80's I turned a 62 pumper into a Hydroseeder rig. I tried to keep it looking like a fire truck but the California DMV wanted it painted, and changed as to not resemble a emergancy vehicle. I Understand the reason why but, took the fun out of the project. I paid extra for the firetruck because I wanted to dawn a yellow hardhat and raincoat. Changing the fire truck to a normal truck and selling the dalmation proved the extra money spent to have a firetruck a waste. United limo may just be a name of a mini-bus or taxi service?. Doubt the driver would be standing at baggage claim in a cap holding a placard. I would do a car rental to opt out of the deal or get parts prior to the return trip. Then return the car and find a way back to your pumper. Some of the car rentals have remote rental car returns. Ebay has a seller grading system that flaws on allowing after the sale transcaction input to show up in the rating. If the user has a unique seller name, a google search of his name (handle) may shed some light when a previous buyer vented on another site. You can post the $500. in ebay escrow and cash out on the balance inperson. A $500.00 cash deposit is realy no protection of a contract if the performance of the contract ( condition) is misrepresented. I think wholesome sellers want the $500 to ward off bad bidders and buyers remource. You may be able to just fax the guy a copy of your airline tickets as a deposit. If he says OK it is as good as the $500.00 in holding the deal. I dont know what your mechanical needs of the pump are but it seems like a vacumn truck is the ticket. I find market value( not advertised price but actual sold price) of equipment by looking at completed construction equipment auctions around the country. This site is the best. navigate "auction results search" http://www.machinerytrader.com/ GregoryO'Connor 94ptRomolandCa --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Al" > > I know this is not close to what we discuss on the Bluebird Forums > but I need some help.
