Front tires for my 84 PT36

Hi group,
Just thought I would let you know what I found out today about my front tires.
I have Oshiu (truck tires) all round. Got them from Les Schwab out in Seattle 5
years ago.
The front ones are "H" rated which means can carry 13,600 lbs on both of them.
My front end weighs 13,200 lbs.
They have been fine for 8,000 miles but I wanted more of safety cushion.
I need to go to an "J" rating.
Finally found GCR tire center in Forsyth, Ga.
They put a lot of Firestone's (owned by Bridgestone) on commercial busses.
I got the J rated ones I wanted with an 2010 build date.
The two tires are 18 ply as opposed to my 16 ply H rated tires.
The means I can load to 18,000 lbs (not that I would).
Price is $444.08 plus install. Total is $500 bucks a tire.
Good price for me and will put them on May 5th.

Also wanted to say my old tires are for free at GCR.
If you want them, let me know and I can tell you more.
They are 5 years old.

Bob,

Never saw many RVs or trucks with Firestone tires until about 4 years ago. Was
using a bus service company in NJ for some work and they did mostly OTR and
intercity buses. Most of those buses used Firestone tires. I asked the owner of
the place about that and he shared that most bus tires are leased and they
replace them often before they wear out and resell them.

Don't know what that had to do with your tires , but Firestone triggered a
response. BUT..... Could be some opportunities to buy take off Firestones if
they are still doing it.
