"Mobile Internet Broadband" via Verizon cell connection
I picked up a PCMCIA card from Verizon during
a presentation Verizon made at the Mariners game yesterday. This Notebook Card provides access for a retail cost of $79 per month to their new to the Seattle/Tacoma area EVDO Service. I have been testing the speed and it is great from my home in Federal Way. Download is over 1000 while upload is over 100. I am heading out today to a PNW Bird Retreat on the Pacific Coast. I will be testing as we travel and be giving a report for sure when I return. If the Broadband EVDO is not available, Verizon cell service has 2 level to throttle back to. 1) EVDO = 1000+ download 2) NationalAccess = 100+ download 3) Quick = 14 download The Quick is good enough for email and very painful surfing. Should be an interesting test. Verizon gave me 30 days free and the card which is available for $49 after rebates they also gave to me (plus 500+ over attendees to their Seattle rollout of the EVDO Service). __________________ Dave Beatty 83 FC35SB (BirdCage) Federal Way, Washington State |

Dave, I have had mine since the beta started in San Diego (upgraded
to current when it went commercial). I never use dial up anymore, in fact, do not have an ISP for dial up. Speed are great in EVDO areas. Just a tip, you need to run the setup wizard regularly to update the areas that they convert to broadband or it will use the 1X slower service. I believe it is found in the setting tab. If your Verizon cell does not work in an area, neither will the EVDO card, only drawback I've found but their netwrok has great coverage.
