Crack in Black Water Tank, How to Fix It Temporarily?
Howdy.
There is a crack in our black water tank about 4-6 inches from the bottom. The crack in a seam of some sort. Jack wants to repair this crack until we can replace the tank. He has used silicone sealant but that didn't work. Ideas, recommendations are requested, please. Thanks, Liz 1993 WLWB Hondo, TX

Crack in Black Water Tank, How to Fix It Temporarily?
My blackwater tank had a lot of cracks in the bottom. I didn't do the repair,
but it was done with fiberglass (resin and cloth) and has been fine now for 6 years. In my case the cracks were due to the heater being left on with empty tank. Liz,
I see you already posted this on WOG and got 3 pages of comments! Nothing useful there? Markus To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com From: jacklizpearce@... Date: Fri, 25 May 2012 15:31:57 +0000 Subject: [WanderlodgeForum] Crack in Black Water Tank, How to Fix It Temporarily?

Fiberglass resin and cloth like don suggested, or if the crack isn't very big you could use 2 part plastic epoxy available at any hardware store, home improvement store or Walmart.
Good Luck

Also of some importance is that silicone "oils" the surface such that nothing
else will stick in most cases, so scraping-removal to expose new ABS is critical. Crack in Black Water Tank, How to Fix It Temporarily?
Well, I actually didn't ask for repair ideas at first on WOG. Maybe I should have. We are pretty stressed out.
Thanks, Markus. Crack in Black Water Tank, How to Fix It Temporarily?
Not worth stressing about. You have one of two choices - either pull it out and have it replaced with new, or try and have it repaired. You mentioned prior repairs and current leaks. If you don't get down to "new" resin/plastic, repairs won't hold too well. Kind of like painting metal that isn't ground down to bare again.
Are there no fiberglass repair places you can go to if you don't want to do this yourself? Bodyshops even? Fiberglass repair isn't a big deal for those that do it every day - boating industry, RV industry, car repair industry, etc. Good luck!
