I'd start getting my mind right for a reman engine.

I have antifreeze in my oil. How did it get there?? If it is a head
gasket, what head could it be? Symptons?? Could it be the oil cooler?
How can you tell? or could it be a cylinder gasket? How can one
pinpoint the leak of antifreeze into the engine?
I would like some input before I take it into a garage so I don't get
taken down the pee patch.
I live in northern Indiana and would like a good honest garage in or
around the area.

number of them
talk over the problem see how the shops are run, you may pay more but nothing
worse than
going thourgh a rebuld twice

Joe, If you and the previous owners kept a check on the PH I would do
the cheapest gasket repair first. Then test for a leak. If it is a
simple gasket prob you got to wonder what event caused the gasket to
fail?? Good luck with the leak I hope it is an easy fix.

several possibilities but first do a check. Run a transparent tube
from the overflow tube into a glass jug full of water and watch for
bubbles. Bubbles indicate you have leakage between the engine oil and
coolant. First check the PH of the coolant now. If its alright then
the chances are that either you or the previous owner ran the engine
two hot and you have one or more cylinder head sealing rings that are
bad. These seal the cylinder liners from the crankcase. If this is
the problem you need an inframe rebuilt.

detroits when sitting in cold winters can leak past the liners,when
it warms up they don't leak.i have a canadian friend that has
coolant in his oil every spring,he drains the coolant out of the oil
and drives it all summer,no problems. BUT! you need to drain all
that coolant out of the oil pan before you run the engine,coolant
and oil do not mix and coolant does not lube well,you can ruin your
engine,be very careful.

Tom, how about explaining your statement ". Bubbles indicate you have
leakage between the engine oil and
coolant. ". I am not a diesel mechanic especially a two stroke type, but, I
am a pretty good gas burner mechanic. Bubbles in the coolant of a gas
burner almost always indicates a blown head gasket allowing compression
pressure to overcome the 7# or so coolant pressure and escape into the
coolant. You can usually see these bubbles of gas excaping in the coolant
overflow container. Depending on the configuration of the cylinder head for
oil drainback and distribution to the valve train, you could see some
pressure and or blow by in the crankcase from the compression gases. Not
being familiar with the two stroke DD configuration, I will not venture an
opinion on Joe's problem other than "stay away from the shade trees".

Is it OK to use premix (Peak) 50/50 glycol antifreeze in a series 60 if
I add the proper amount of Nalcool 3000 (SCA's) to the mix? I will
confirm freeze, and nitrites with a test strip. I want to change
coolant. Any pros, or cons with my intentions?

Many automotive antifreeze mixtures contain phosphorus and silicates.
As the above document decribes, these components are not suitable
for Series 60 applications.
