1976 Wanderlodge
Chuck. I've got the Cat 3208 and I'm happy with it. It's slow but very
reliable. I don't know anything about the Ford Gas engine but I do know that
Wanderlodge put in the best available components, at the time, so I'd figure the
engine to be generally good. Plan on spending about $300 per rim, if you go
with new ones, and probably the same for tires. As with any investment you must
ask. (1) Can you afford the worst case scenario? Worst case might be engine,
tire and rim problems. Can you afford to deal with all of them? (2) What are
the chances of a worst case scenario? You need to inspect the bus and get a
feel for how likely those items are to fail. (3) What better alternatives are
available now? What else is on the market that's any better? (4) Must you
purchase now? If so, then you go with your best available option. (5) Total
investment. What are other 76's selling for and what is their condition. This
will give you an idea of the total investment target that you should set. (6)
Reality. All RV's are money losing investments so don't look at it strictly as
a money issue. What you're buying is a lifestyle and the convenience to go
where you want when you want. Your goal is to get the vehicle up and running
within the approximate financial target. So long as you don't surpass your
target by too much, then you should be okay. If you come in under your target,
then that's great. Henry F. Claeys, 1979 FC, McAllen, Tx.

Hi Henry,

Thanks for your input. I am not familiar with that brand, but I will look into
them. After all the comments I got, I am getting gun shy about buying the 76
FC in San Antonio. The price might be attractive, but that might just be the
tip of the iceberg. Do you have the 534 gas or a cat diesel? This one is the
gas engine. The seller tells me that he has spent almost $3 on repairs on the
mechanicals. It is on Ebay as a 1976 Bluebird Wanderlodge. If you look at it,
let me know what you think. I would surely appreciate it

Thanks again for time
Chick

I haven't seen any mention of Kuhmo tires in the recent discussions
about tires. I bought two for the front, almost three years ago, for
about $300 each. They've served me well, but I only drive between 1000
and 2000 miles per year on them. Henry F. Claeys, 1979 FC35, McAllen,

1976 Wanderlodge
Anyone know anything about the 1976 wanderlodge on ebay. Item
number:220485445705

Says it is a 76 with a 3208 CAT. I am probably wrong, but weren't the 76's all
gassers and the 3208 Cats not installed until 77'. If so, would this be a
conversion?
