Becoming a Birdman?
I'm pretty sure it is an aftermarket, and whoever did it was skilled.
It has a pyrometer and boost pressure gauge installed high up in front of the driver. However, I would not purchase an engine converted this way because there is usually a big difference in the internal strengths of NA vs. turbo engines. Kerry, I had a 69 Travoco 220 what a fun camper.The 318 in the Travco
fiberglass camper will run circles around my 500 hp 40 ft diesel bus. The cat-Foretravel has got to perform better and get more mpg than the cat-Bird (weight). The safty points never did much for me because the windshields were the same thickness. The convincing factor is Ride, Style, and timeless appeal. Look at the Brinner bus on the homepage of this forum. Beautiful When I pulled into a campground with my Travco people would lock up their belongings. Now when I pull up in my Wonderlodge people come over to check the bus out , then go back and lock up their belongings. If I had a Foretravel , no one would notice I checked in. It has a 3208 NA but I don't think you would notice the difference to much. I think the turbo give you another 15 HP and that not a hell of allot difference. My bird get an honest 10 mpg and folks here say that can't be right but I have rechecked it many times now and that's what I get. It a 33 footer and so that makes it a little lighter that the 35 footers. If you buy one try to get one oft the Vintage bird as most of those people really take care of their rigs. Oh yes I paid 21,900 dollars for mine and it had a new paint job and all new interior plus a new gen-set. Just look around and your right bird with come to you.
