New member questions
A dirty fuel filter can cut into your power. Replace it to test. Same with the
air filter. These buses are low on power and I'm not familiar enough with your
route to know if your experience was normal. I was down to about 28mph climbing
Raton Pass a few weeks ago but that is that about 9000 ft so there's a lot less
power at that altitude. I have the 210 hp NA with an aftermarket turbo. You
may be in a situation in which the gear ratio in your bus is taller because of
the turbo but the 15 hp difference that the turbo makes is not enough to deal
with the taller gears. More experienced voices need to address that.

you more power. I have used it on Detroits and Cummins, don't see why it
won't work on Cat's also. Best and cheapest system I have found is the Bull
Dog System <http://www.bullydog.com>. What you need is the "High output" kit. You
may have to talk to Mike, the inventor of the system. The salesmen don't
know the High output exists and think the system doesn't work on large
engines. It was originally designed for the P/U trucks and that is the
majority of their business. The last coach we had propane on, we had to be
careful about over running cars on the hills. I would put one on my new
coach except that it has enough power for the weight.

I must comment here, tried propane with my truck. 3208 375 hp marine arrangement
with 400 hp radiator/charge aircooler. Georges pal Pius at Bell turbo turned me
on to a good Cat turbo charger and that helped my boost a good bit, however it
doesn't get over 16 #s. That's OK as I have a little trouble keeping the pipe
boots from blowing off. The propane system I used is made by a guy from MI and
it responds to turbo boost, more boost more propane. Only thing I noticed is
the tank ran out pretty fast, (80 gal.) can't say I was aware of more grunt when
I was in the Rockies. Certainly not a night and day difference. I'm not
throwing rocks at the theory but I wouldn't expect much improvement, the FC is
way too heavy for the 3208, needs 400hp something to move along like most people
would like. You start turning up the power in a none cooled diesel you will
blow holes in the pistons and lose head gaskets. Been there and done all that
with 3208s. Best thing is to maximize the air to the intake and make sure the
throttle is opening ALL the way.
It's pretty common for FCs to have throttle opening problems. Sometimes the
trans cable will keep the throttle from full travel, had that problem with my FC
and it took a few times under the cover to get it all sorted out, but I saw a
major difference once I got it right. The lever on the pump needs to be fully
opened, that last little bit of opening makes an amazing difference.
As you have a 225 hp a 250 intake is a good bit larger both in flange opening
and port runner size, I got a couple of 250 intakes around. 200 bucks. I used
a air cleaner off a '88 Top Kick with a turbo 3208, much less restrictive that
the square box thing BB used.
