Reworked Alternator Tag
While fixing the problem I had with my cooling fan I decided to change
all the belts and since I was pulling all the belts I might as well pull the alternator and have it gone thru. It is a Leece-Neville and it has a label stuck over the data plate. It says "Reworked Alternator BB no.08258 Standard Alternator Will Not Work Properly" Anyone know what BlueBird reworked on their alternators? Also what is the normal life span of the water pump on a 3208,it wouldn't take much to change it now,The mileage on the coach is 71,000 and it looks like the cooling system was well maintained. the little oil cooler hoses were the ones that started leaking on my FC. You

Miller knows what's up with the LN alternator. Do the water pump and change out
the oil cooler hoses. Don't forget to take your arrangement numbers to the Cat parts house. Reworked Alternator Tag
On the standard alternator, BlueBird removed the tab between the
voltage regulator terminal and the positive terminal. This is an external strip/tab, the one on the negative side stays. This allows the alternator to sense voltage remotely and charge the batteries at a more accurate charging voltage when there is a heavy load. Reworked Alternator Tag
Jeff,
I had the Motorola alternator rebuilt before our winter trip. The master disconnect kill switch was in the "ON" position for over three months. Upon returning home, I began to again use the master disconnect switch. When switching to the "Off" position, there is now a voltage leak in the system, some on the relays will chatter. Especially the air step relays and the dash/ step/ open light will flicker. It seems to be a less than 12 volt leakage. To get a positive shut down, I now turn on a small load like a heater fan, then switch the master disconnect to the "OFF" position. Could this tab be my problem?? Is this tab on the Motorola?? Could the alternator rebuild shop have hooked up this tab?? Not on the Motorola, I'm not aware of any '87-up coaches having this
arrangement but ?? Thanks Jeff, When I dropped the alternator off at the rebuild shop I
deal with the techs. there did not know what the rework might consist of,but they said they would give it back to me in the same configuration as it was. Now that I know I will make sure they don't install the tie.
