Member Counts ~ Yahoo chicanery
Until recently, Yahoo Member Counts reflected active email accounts
that were known good addresses. In a separate category were those that were "bouncing." This means folks whose ISP's were rejecting Yahoo messages as "Spam" or addresses that were no longer good or accepting Yahoo messages. There are a lot of small ISP's that use anti-Spam software that kills Yahoogroups emails. Recently, Yahoo altered their methods and now "bouncing" subscribers are included in the Member Count. For example, my High School Group went from 1100+ to 1200+, overnight, because the "bouncers" were now included. (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CraftonReunion/) I suspect this is a Yahoo ploy to bolster their ad revenue by inflating numbers that only an individual Group Moderator or Owner can verify. The advertisers have no clue.... Sorta like Bruce.... Kudo's to Earnie for keeping this forum open by re-inventing it. Bill Cain Long Island, NY |
