Limited Bird Time
Alex:
The lake has been low for a couple of years because of the hurricanes. Looked yesterday and it is trying to come up a bit. When the lake is at normal level you cannot see the stumps. On Labor Day we were at Indian Pass Campground near Port St. Joe shark fishing from a funky pontoon boat five miles out. Great fun. We go there once each year, it is isolated and beautiful. They only have a couple of sites that will accommodate our Bird. There are two permanent Vintage Birds at King Lake. Mine and I think an 85, Grandpa's Bus, a Tan and Brown PT-38 or 40. I do not see him often, usually walking the dog. He takes a trip about once a year. It is his retirement home. Nice place. I took my boy and a friend of his there to do a little fishing. Not much was bitting, the lake was low from the lack of rain (hurricanes-smile-) this year. We will try it again when the water level is up. There were two other Birds there that weekend. By chance was one you? We do alot of 3 day weekends to St Andrews, St George Island and Grayton Beach. My 16 yo is into sports and we travel with that. We just returned from a 1000 mile round trip to Miami for his HS football championship game(and the Bird did great, purred like a Cat!). It's just the 1-2 week trips we are unable to make at this time. Alex Tallahassee 82FC35 "Eagles Nest" jwasnewski Please do not let limited vacation time and school prevent you from using your Bird. Sometimes it ain't easy. We are rearing my wife's grandchildren and have been able to use our Bird often. We try to pick a park 100-200 miles from home twice a month. Leave Friday after school return Sunday. Three day weekends are a bonus. We pack up the 8 and 5 year old and haul 123, trailer, car, bikes, adult beverages, and anything else the wife wants. Last park we went to was in the boonies on the Suwannee River. Beauty untouched by man. Good for the bus and the body. The rewards are great. Gonna turn off the phone on Dec 16 and bust out for Texas. All 4 of us. I'm think'n to heck with working on Christmas and New Year's day(grin) and in between. Limited Bird Time
Max:
Consider a Bird. Fabulous coach. We park between a Discovery and a Dutch Star at the park. Their owners are always cussing something and they always ask why I pick away. I tell them the Bird is a fine piece and the only way to keep the bus the way it is, is to keep the bus the way it is. (smile) Constantly picking away at my Bird is a lifestyle because I know if I keep it in top shape I can pass it along to the Grandson, the little man! I'm not convinced about the SOB's Come on over. Old Bird owners do not have slides. If you need a slide you do not need a motor home. Just my opinion. Slides might give you an extra 30 square feet and for sure a butt load of extra maintenance. Of course, if you've got the dough, go for it. We eat, sleep and travel around in the Bird. The idea is to be outside and enjoy nature. If I'm gonna sit inside all day I'll sell it and go to the house. And yes, King Lake, family owned with outdoor Friday nite movies, on site restaurant an all the other fixings is a nice place to hang out. Limited Bird Time
Leroy,
Small world. While I was there I spent a few minutes with the gentleman who own's Grandpa's Bus. He happened to ride by on his motocycle with dog in tow and I was camped near by. I'll be sure to look you up the next time we're there! Alex Smith Tallahassee 82FC35 "Eagles Nest" Leroy Eckert The lake has been low for a couple of years because of the hurricanes.
