Trying to Pull Steering Wheel

[bubblerboy64]

Guys I am trying to get the steering wheel off the ole bus. I have the
correct tool and it will not budge. Placing a washer over the threaded
post I will damage the thread and have actually bent the bolts going
into the holds for this application. I can't believe its that tight?
Idea's suggestions etc. Don't see why there would be a problem. The
keeper nut screwed off easily enough and I can see the teeth of the
retaining gear, just will not move.

how much pressure it took for the hub to "pop" off. also grade 8 bolts

Thanks Jim, I am going to soak the area with some penitrating oil
over night and see what gives tomorrow. Likely never off the bus in
35 years. Let ya know tomorrow. The idea with the grade 8 bolts is
good plus the nuts on threated shaft so thanks on those tips.

Jim, You certainly can and I'll even tell ya :-) Two reasons. One
plain ole cosmetics and also the wheel is so large in diameter that a
guy of my stature has a problem. To get my feet to the brake and gas
my more then amble belly is rubbing on the wheel or very close to it.
I need to strink one or the other. Another thing I need to do if it
is in fact doable is the try to lighted up the pressure it takes to
keep the throttle applied. Seems like after a while driving the bus I
feel like I have to darned near stand on the gas to keep in going.
Haven't looked into this but hoping maybe a spring to the right place
might make the throttle a little lighter. I guess there is another
one for the group to help me with.

I sympathize with your loud pedal problem, I feel the same way. I
am often practically standing up to push the pedal as far as I can.
I think the reality is that it is only a mental deception that it
does any real good. I did get my cruise control working so my leg
gets a little break on the flats. As far as a slightly smaller
steering wheel, I agree that it would be nice. I seem to be bobbing
forward and backward to maneuver the coach into a campground space.
The only concern I have is a power steering failure and the ability
to steer the coach to a safe stop.

UPS just delivered the wheel. It is beautiful, I forget the cost but
I think with shipping it was under $250. No seconds available (Gary
Miller suggested seconds) I think this will go a long way towards
dressing up the bus and I am very impressed with the quality and
service from VIP. I have four days to work on the bus and with a
little luck I will have a lot accomplished by Monday evening. I am
working on interior cosmetics.
