Tom,

You'll have the master switch at your knee (pilots seat) and the
accessory disconnect in the overhead behind the driver. This should
disconnect all batteries loads that the factory originally planned.
Your microphor toilet and other options my be wired directly to the
batteries (like they did on mine) so turn that DC compressor off if you
have that option.

If your dumb chargers are the same that came with my 87 then their set
at 13.6 volts (a fairly safe voltage if accurate). I would think 2
hours a day would be addequate for battery maintenance. Check a coulple
of times to get a baseline. You wont need to use both (see which one
puts out the least voltage).

Any fourty amp smart charger could be left full on w/o issue for
storage needs. Pull out one of the old chargers locate the breaker for
it as both chargers should be on seporate brakers, drop the new charger
in there and turn it on at the breaker. It is an easy install and you
can just sit it in there for temporary.

Tape off any exposed leads or power cord prongs while working on the
chargers as all of your DC current shunts are directly below the
charger. A lead drops and POP....

I checked my battery chargers after reading on this forum about the original
battery boilers. The ones I have appear to be the originals and they do make my
batteries consume a lot of water.

As far as replacement goes, what is recommended? This looks like it has two
units. Do I need two? On a prior coach, I used the Iota 45 amp charger and it
worked quite well. Is this acceptable? If so, do I need two?

I replaced the OE chargers in my 91 SP36 with Iota 45 amp Chargers and was very pleased with them.
At that time I had called the BB factory for advice and they recommended the Iota Chargers also

I installed Xantrex 2500 on my bird....Only hooked up the charger side as the
PACS1500 still works so I left it connected......the Xantrex works great as a
charger. My intention was if the PACS1500 goes down, then I just hook up the
inverter side of the Xantrex 2500.

Hank and Fred,

Thanks for the posts. I want to make sure I do this right so I don't encounter
any complications. Electrical fires are the worst and I sure want to avoid
that.

Jerry I replaced my boilers withe Iota 75 amp two each. I could of gotten by
with one. With both on it only puts out less than 5 amps over one. I only use
one at a time and just keep changing them. I have two switches. One of them
failed and Iota sent me one for free the same day. All I had to do was send back
the old one in the same box postage free.

Does it make a difference to the charger if the batteries are 6 volt or 12 volt?

configuration.
