Has anyone here had there vlv rack adjustment here lately?

I have had various cost figures pertaining to this job and they range
from$300 and up. Of course I do not have the swing out radiator but
that ok as that would cost another couple of hundred bucks or more to
preform this operation. Just would like to check with the rest of FC
people as to what they are paying? Thanks Jon

I haven't paid to have it done, but without a swing radiator I would
estimate around 12hours shop time. I've always done my own, and always
with a swing radiator. The guy who's quoting you $300 will probably
hate you.

If you can do it yourself it will save a lot, mostly labor.

I have a swing radiater and coming up on 100,000 miles this summer. Was
planning to do my own valve clearance checking and adjustments. The cat book
reads pretty well on this procedure. If you have any tips based on your
experience, would appreciate your input. What else should be done while I'm
in there?

Just finished assembly of the M3 race motor in Feb. Will be at Gingerman in
South Haven weekend of June 24 25, stop by if you can.

Rebuild the breathers, and if you have the time re-insulate the
doghouse while it is off.

The valve adjust is pretty simple once the doghouse and radiator are
open. Cleaning and painting the engine is tempting at that point also.

If you have any interest in having (injector) nozzles checked or
rebuilt, this would be the time also.

I'll see if I can make Gingerman, ... think my little diesel will tear
up the M3? ... Audi did it with their diesel at Sebring.

The diesels are coming!
29,000 psi common rail for good atomization, particlate filters, and
ultralow sulfur diesel starting in October 2006. Old high sulfur diesel was
2500 ppm sulfur, in 1993 came low sulfur diesel at 500 ppm, and now we will
have 15 ppm sulfur. The lubricity of sulfur will be replaced with an
additive that will lube the pump better than the sulfur did. Energy loss of
ULSD is expected to be approximately 1%, and the price bump 11 to 15 cents
per gallon.

Got one question what is the breather? Sence I'm having this done I
might just ask the mechanic to do this but sure would like to know
what this is? Is it the same as a breather on a car? Thanks

I can't remember the year coach you have Jon, but if it is a 3208Ta you
have one PCV on each valve cover (not breather, sorry), re-build is a
Cat kit which includes the diaphragm and gaskets.
