Synthectic Oil
What is the best synthetic oil for use in a DD 8V92. My coach has 68,000
miles on Dino Oil. Also what Synthetic would be best for the Allison Transmission. What should be the cost and anyone know a source in South West Georgia. Thanks, Howard Truitt Camilla, Ga. 86 8V92 PT40 |

Synthectic Oil
I've heard from many, including Detroit Diesel, that the oil of choice in
the 2-stroke 8V92 is dino oil, 40 wt only, formulated for the two strokes. I've been using Detroit Diesel's brand two stroke oil for the past 4+ yrs. The only other oil I've heard is OK to use is Chevron Delo 100, 40wt. The Delo 400 40 wt is apparently a no-no. I'd call a reputable Detroit Repair Facility and ask them their suggestion for synthetic (if any) for the DD 8V92. My service manual says to use API Certified CD-II, Sulfated Ash less than 1.0%, 40 WT. It briefly mentions synthetics, and basically says it must meet the specs as their recommended fossil oil. Check our archives...there have been some really informative discussions and recommendations about engine oils...make sure when you read them, that you concern yourself with the Detroits, not the CATs... The oil issue continues....... Kevin McKeown Yorba Linda, CA 1986 38' PT 8V92 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Synthectic Oil
>Howard,
I use Royal Purple 15W40 which is manufactured local to myself in Humble, Texas. The website is http://www.royalpurple.com/. Buying it direct is the cheapest route. As for the transmission, I use Allison's synthetic ATF. It is not cheap but the run time is very long and I had it installed while my tranny was being serviced at an Allison shop.
