Looks pretty tight John. Would a right angle screwdriver get in there? Will
the sending unit length be a problem because it will have to come out at an
angle. I had a similar tight situation earlier this year and had to enlarge
an access hole through eighth inch plate steel using one of Randy's hole
saws.

Thanks Mike,

That will be a job for another time, when the tank is not full and
just continue to refuel at between 500 and 600 miles just to make
sure that I don't run out of fuel, so far that has worked OK. I might
also look at enlarging the access hole as Rob suggested and making a
new cover for it afterward, that would not be that hard to do either
using a sawsall, with a shortened blade.

I got the idea to change it after I had the dash apart and found out
that the fuel gauge was in working order at the dash, but I want to
finish the dash first and I'll be leaving here in less than a month.

Make sure there is no frame member under the floor. Seems to me there is,
that's why the hole is off a little.

John,
A pneumatic auto body saw works well for cutting the floor plate. The
stroke is shorter/faster than the sawsall. I use a regular hand hacksaw
blade, cut in thirds...they last longer than the blades sold
specifically for the air saw.

FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT REMOVE AND REPLACE
Thanks again Mike,

You are right again, there is a cross member located just aft of the
access hole, that I can feel when I stick my fingers under there, so
lowering the front of the tank will be the way to do the remove and
replace whenever I decide to do that, but when I have a lot less fuel
in the tank, to deal with weight wise.
