Rose Mary- is your dead bolt locked or the handle lock? If it is the handle
lock- an rv dealer probably has a master key. Ernie-83pt40 in montana

Hi all,
hoping someone can tell me if the hinge rod can be removed from the
door?
Somehow the door won't open, don't know if the door knob got tangled up
with the screen door slide inside or what. My niece took some stuff out
to the coach last night and now I can't get in.
If it got locked somehow when she came out don't know, the keys are
inside the coach...
Of course all the window latches work great and are closed as I had the
air conditioner on.....except the door window which the top easily
slides down.
So, wondering if the hinge pin is one long rod or two as top and bottom
appear to be rounded out.
Any suggestions?

Something similar happened to us last year except we were inside the
coach. Do both the locks appear to work normally? Can you unlock the
bottom lock and pull the handle on the top lock? If you can than
then the problem may be the same. There are two screws one above and
one below the upper lock bolt that goes into the door frame. These
screws go into a slot in the door frame. What happened to us was
that one screw had come loose and caught on the edge of the door
frame keeping the door from opening while both locks appeared to
unlock. I had to climb out of the window and was able to take out
the screws around the door frame on the lock side and then pry the
frame over far enough to get the door to open.
Both screws are now inserted with "Lock Tite" and we have not
experienced any more problems.

I think that is exactly what may have happened....I have had to
tighten those before and think one was working a bit.
But, I am outside the coach with all the windows latched except for
the top door window. Even my daughter who is like a spider was unable
to get her arm down between the screen door to reach (also the screen
slide may be involved...?)

Anyone know of a way in...ha! If it's locked a locksmith could help
but don't feel that is the problem.....
open to suggestions? Sure would like to get in with minimal damage to
the coach...

If the rubber gasket that hold the windows has oround spline in the
center. you can pull the sline out at the point that it joins. You can
than pull the whole window assembly out frame and all.This spline is
what locks the window into the rubber.

Hey Guys Why couldn't you take the glass out of one of the sliding
windows & go in through the screen? I've taken the glass out to replace the
felts
on the sliders & it isn't a hard job. I think Rosemary could do that & just
take the screws out in the top & bottom of the window & slide the glass out.
Pick one of the bigger ones it is easer to get the glass out.

Thank you everyone for the ideas...
What I ended up doing was slitting the screen so we could reach down
the inside of the screen door, attached a mirror to a clothes hanger
so could take a look. The door lock button was indeed pushed....think
it will be a good idea to stash an extra set somehere in the bay
where the propane fills (the only one without a lock.)I plan to have
extra keys made to keep outside of the coach should this ever occur
again, I really didn't think it was locked...a locksmith could have
helped, ah well. In all the in & outs of the coach this hadn't
happened, but now sure aware how easy it can happen, especially when
someone not familiar with the door and how it locks may accidentally
bump the button pushing the door open...
Thank goodness the top glass in the door has a tendency to slide
down. None of the other window latches would budge.
Some of the ideas sent were good ones but had already done the slit
screen. Not a difficult or costly thing to repair....
Glad we weren't out in the middle of nowhere to learn this lesson.

Rose Mary,
Your lock is probably a Bargeman. It shouldn't be possible to close the door
with the lock pushed in unless the lock is worn and in need of a rebuild. Kits
are available from some RV stores or they can order one for you. I went out and
tried ours just to see if that would close with the button in and it wouldn't.
However, our previous '81 FC would until I rebuilt the lock.

Other than to latch the door I don't place any faith in
the Bargeman lock for security. I use the dead-bolt then
I feel somewhat secure, however, almost anyone with a
phillips can after loosening about 20 screws drop
down through a 14 X 14 vent. You can bet the bad boys
know that, and, no burglar alarm either, turn it off
before they exit the door.

My brother accidentally locked himself out of the '77,
he had "lock out" coverage on his policy. On the '87,
Pushing in the lock pin makes no difference, personally
I would rather have it that way then I will be sure to
lock the better lock.
