Sound System

[Gardner Yeaw]

The old 8 track system in my '78 is not working. What systems have
people installed to give a low volume quality sound. I don't want 10k
watt sub woofers, just a nice background sound. Any suggestions?

There are many applications. Mine is Kenwood with attached CD player and
graphic equalizer. I recently changed the speakers out. The volume is
controlled by the volume control, the quality is presented by the speakers.

My unit has 2 Kenwood automotive AM-FM radios with cassette players.
I plan to upgrade at least one of them to a newer CD/MP3 radios. The
speakers are adequate, so I'll just swap out the radio for one that's
got similar amplifier wattage. There's a huge variety of choices for
under $200 or so.

As for fixing that old 8-track ... well, I don't know if there's any
help for that.

Mine has Kenwood AM/FM, equalizer and CD player in the pilot panel. I recently
replaced the speakers(4) and everything is dandy. The sound quality comes from
quality speakers. You control the volume. I also have Sirius radio over the
TV's (3), via in motion satellite hookup(Dish Network) A separate 4 speaker
remote wireless sound system takes a feed off the TV and sends music throughout
the bus. Volume is controlled at each speaker. Accordingly, I have local AM/FM,
Sirius, and CD. I get NBC, ABC and FOX via satellite from NY or LA my choice.
All other major cable channels are on the dish.
There is also a separate Kenwood AM/FM in the bedroom to sleep by.

The 8 track is hopeless. There a many good new units available in the $200
range.

I installed an outside entertainment system, Akai 26" flat screen TV , radio
and CD changer for less than $300. The TV accepts cable or satellite feeds.
The TV feeds sound to the stereo. Works great.
Something to think about. Lots of fun electronic stuff to play with.

I can get the ol bus a rockn.

Hi Terry:

I do not have that committed to memory ( possibly Advent) but purchased them
from Radio Shack. The frequency is good for about 200ft. I'm going to the bus
this weekend and will tell you when I get back. The system has a small
satellite dish about 3" in diameter that plugs into an audio output on the TV
which sends radio waves to speakers plugged into 110v outlets converted to 12v.
It works great. I first found this system 10 or so years ago reading an in
flight mag. Don't fly commercial air any more. I took our poolside system from
the house and put it in the bus. Got to still be available cheap in this
electronic age. Speakers have a tweeter and a small woofer with A and B
frequency switch, volume control, bass and treble. It gives the feeling of
surround sound. Plus you can hide the speakers.

Mine are Optimus 900MHz with a/c adaptor. The system comes with 2 speakers but
will operate 4. Radio Shack does not carry them any longer. Look on
Smarthome.com. Advent 8243-10W 900MHz stereo remotes for $ 190.00 look nearly
identical. They deliver very high quality sound for the money.
