Back Up Camera

Hi,

I need to replace my Sanyo VDC 2512 black/white back up camera. I have
done a web search and can't find that exact model number. Can anyone
tell me where I can find a Sanyo replacement or recommend another
comparable camera? I don't have time to be modifying the box where the
camera sits, so I need something that will mount like the Sanyo.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Randy,
I have a B & W camera that I replaced with a Sony color setup. My monitor went
bad and became intermittent. I have no idea what the camera is worth. (If I
can still find it). I saved the camera & monitor because I've heard that
someone on the forum fixes the monitors. Anyway, I'm not going to use either.
Make an offer if interested in the camera.

Randy,
Not knowing your problem Let me tell you about mine. My camera picture would
flicker badly. I took it out took out the circuit board and checked the solder
joints on the back. about 4 or 5 were cracked. I resoldered put camera back in
and it works beautiful. I had afuzzy picture and I took the cover off of the
camera there is a piece of 1/4 inch plexi glass in the cover it had crazed
badly. I replaced it and now have a stable clear picture. Saved several hundred
dollars to buy fuel with.

I concur with the recommendation of http://www.rvcams.com Tim helped me immensely.
For around $400 I put in a colour flat panel monitor and new rear camera. I
used existing coaxial cable with a Radio Shack S/Coax adapter. I have
pictures of dash install and rear camera install if interested.

Rob, is it worth an upgrade from the factory B&W system? and is there
a way to get intercom to enhance voice contact with
lookout 'ComeOnBack' person?

When I back up my Dumptruck and trailer I get out and take a walk
around then I place a mini cone next to landmarks. Never do I hit a
thing, no camera, life is stressfree and easy. However backing up
the bus is very stressful as the copilot says "I'll look" and my walk
around review would spark a 'you have no trust debate'. Who wants to
start a trip this way.
As I back up I hear "a little to the right". My question is "my
right or your right" Then I hear "we are facing the same way what do
you think". I respond "I shouldn't be thinking, you are directing
me, just point, damit" Then I see clearly in the monitor a single
digit reply. This is the only time I can see a command as every
other time he is in view of a mirror or the camera and only an arm
in one and a torso in the other.

Then a new sign language, hands to the side, what's that mean? As
he starts to push on the bumper I realize the Umpire SAFE sign L is
equivalent to Bus driver STOP sign L. Then the walk to the drivers
window. The pace is reminiscent of an Umpite walk to the mound, does
the repeated over exaggerated 'He's safe motion' evoke a Baseball
authority ambition in someone? As he approaches I adjust my cup and
wait for his first pitch. The co pilot says "when I do this ( he
motions safe)it means stop". I hold my arms out forward, thumbs side
by side, palms facing him and say "I thought this meant stop". He
replies "that means, Ouh - hay - Beep -Beep, are you wearing double
knit polyester or something". I reply "What?, are you Donna Sommers
now?, this aint a Prevost, no Discoball hanging in the galley". I
then jump out of my seat, take a walk around, place some landmark
indicators and back the bus in safe. I often wondered if the
nightstand placed rear and center was a selling feature in the
classic FC's, prompted by backup /setup anxiety.

Hi Greg. I rarely ever back up without someone behind me, especially in an
campground. There is always the chance a small child or pet will dart in
behind. They seem to love the vacant campsite next door. I use my Backup
Camera system to watch the toad. I rarely use it for backing info. Often Sue
will notice something in the campsite that I miss (ie overhanging branches).
My old b&w system died and since it was 11 years old I didn't want to frig
with it. It has been my experience that jury-rigging-fixing something
electronic that old is often an exercise in futility and expensive. I think
b&w gives you better picture, especially at night but I opted for the colour
camera. I've heard that colour shows up fire but b&w doesn't. A fire shows
up like dust or grey smoke but the flames are not easily seen. That's not
the reason I opted for colour. Colour is cool. I think your sign-language
problem is beyond my help. You both need expert advice VBG. Kidnap the local
'flag person' and hold them ransom until they part with the secret hand
motions for traffic control.
