Air intake cowling
On my new to me 1987 PT 38, the air intake cowling, up on the roof is
facing towards the back. I was told it should be facing forward. Before I start taking a bunch of screws out to get to where I think a clamp might be. Does anyone know for sure, the easiest way to spin this around. Tom Sorrentino Bedford Hills, NY |

Tom, the air scoop should definitely be facing forward. Not sure how
yours came to be reversed but if you take the screws out, you should be able to turn it around. If you look up from the engine compartment, you should see the clamp that attaches the scoop to the down pipe. Terry,
I am sure you know what you are suggesting. But I have a question. With the air scoop facing forward, what prevents a lot of water from entering to your engine in a rain storm while driving down the road? My air intake (PT40) has a grill over the face of it. This keeps large
objects from entering the air intake. When you are drawing air from that height, you aren't going to ingest a lot of rain unless you're in a monsoon. This is how mine is positioned. Looks to me like it was installed that way at the factory. I put raised air intakes on Land Rovers all the time in my business & they are all faced forward for maximum air flow. Never had a problem with rain water and many of these are on diesel engines. They have face grills on them too. The Squires wrote: > Terry, > > I am sure you know what you are suggesting. Air intake cowling
Terry,
I had a chance to look a little better at it today (before it started raining). I couldn't see any clamps except for the one about 5'above ground level, that the stack comes down into. I guess my question is. Does it get spun around there, or is there a clamp that I would have access to by removing the plate on the roof, where it comes thru? Air intake cowling
There is a big hole on the bottom of the outer air filter chamber on my PT38.
Presumably to let any accumulated water out. Air intake cowling
I think the rear opening yields cleaner air coming into the engine. Any
solids in the air would have a harder time being sucked in. I have never seen a Bluebird with one facing rear but the snorkel on my gas Rover faces rear and all the camel tophy rovers did also. Original snorkels were for desert running to not injest solids. In this country mostly for wading. The air at the top of a bus would be some of the cleanest compared to all vehicles, so probably not a factor. dandarst86fc35rbhuntleyil. >From: Terry Neal >Reply-To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com >To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com >Subject: Re: [WanderlodgeForum] Air intake cowling >Date: Sun, 27 Aug 2006 10:38:52 -0600 > >Tom, the air scoop should definitely be facing forward.
