When anchoring to the diamond plate, I would use a few very short
(1/2") SS screws with the points filed off. Drill a very generous starter hole since the SS has a hard time keeping it's threads intact, or run a steel or hardened steel screw in, then back it out and put in the stainless, with perhaps a coating of anti-seize for when you want to remove it someday. You have about 1/4" under the diamond plate b4 the roof starts. Walking around up there will wear holes in your roof if you leave the points of screws on, or run them in too far. Anyone install a King Dome?
Hi all:
When I installed my king dome, I went down to a local nut and bolt store, picked up several of the blind nuts used to mount the mirrors on Chevy pickup trucks and used 1/4 -20 stainless hex head bolts. I also made the tool from a bolt and 2 nuts to install the inserts with. Worked nicely for me. Scott:
A rivnut is a device which is placed into metal, fiberglass or other thin skin using a compression type tool to secure it. A screw or bolt is then inserted into it to mount the intended object. Not expensive. Requires a cheap special tool. Used extensively on aircraft. Typical sizes are 6-8-10 Leroy Eckert 1990 WB-40 Niceville, FL ----- Original Message ----- From: Scott Forman To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, September 01, 2006 7:03 AM Subject: [WanderlodgeForum] Re: Anyone install a King Dome? If Stephen doesn't carry rivnuts you can find them and the required tool at Aircraft Spruce.com. A great addition to any toolbox. While you are at it order stainless screws and tinnermann washers for a beautiful flush installation. If you look closely at my tail light retrofit on the forum you will see the finished product. The stainless plate holding my tail lights are mounted with rivnuts, stainless screws and tinnermann washers.
