looking to rent a bird
Are there any places to rent a used bird? I missed an opportunity to
purchase an '82 FC recently. I was hooked on Wanderlodges on my first
walk-thru and test drive. My wife, being the smarter of the two of us,
suggested we rent something next spring as a test before we plunk down
$$'s. We live in SE Wisconsin and have a local RV dealer that will
rent us a non-bird RV. But, I would prefer to rent an '83-87 PT as
that is about what we can afford to buy..

Any leads or assistance would be greatly appreciated..

I got a couple FCs you can look over, one 35' diesel rear bath and one 31' gas
side bath, no charge for looking and asking questions. I know of a couple of
FC's for sale in the area that are diesel side baths.

I don't think there are any dealers that do this......
As to the individual owners, most consider the Bird their toy and
prized posession.... Much to keep up and care for.
Some may rent out the Wife and Kids, or Hunting Dog, but not their
prized Bluebird:-)

These coaches are so complicated unlike the "others" that you just can't turn
the key on and go. I have had people ask to rent my bird from time to time
and since they know nothing about them, I decline.

It would surprise me if anyone rented a BB. IMO, a BB is much more
complex and valuable than any rental RV. Too many switches and buttons
to screw up. The learning curve is much steeper than a conventional
motor home. I am still learning after three years.

I appreciate the offer. Let me check on what weekends I have open and I'll
give you a call. This probably won't happen until October...

thanks

Yeah, I figured that renting a BB would be like asking a guy to rent his prized
'67 GTO. But I have to atleast ask/try.. We'll give this a try and then
probably rent something else and attend a BB rally (if they'll allow 'guests'Wink

I do not know of a Blue Bird Rally, or for that matter, any other
Rally or meet that would not welcome you and your family. Depending
on where you are there are several going on in the next month.
During these you would have an opportunity to ask questions and get
first hand answers, also, see different models, colors, years, up
close.

What town you in? I'm 1 1/2 mile north of the Hwy 41/45 and Hwy 100/ Main
Street intersection, or 3/4 mile north of the County Q and Hwy 145 intersection,
on Hwy 145. I should be back from Idaho middle of October.

I appreciate the insight and fundamentally believe in what you are saying. I am
pretty much on the outside looking in, so to speak. As most bird owners were
prior to their first purchase. The good news is there are forums like this
one that I hope can lead to avenues that will allow me to park one in my
driveway eventually..(that is if I move the garage back about 20 feet)!)
