40 weight oil
i am going to change the oil, and my owners manual tells me to use
10w40 weight. as seen below im being advised to use straight 40. what weight should i use? 40 grade Cx-II oil? thanks, robert 85 pt40 6v92 Detroits have no glow plugs and "off the shelf" no starting assist. They are ENTIRELY dependant on engine compression to start. They also require (not recommend, REQUIRE) straight weight strength required by the injector followers - you WILL destroy cams if you run a 15W40 in them, |

40 weight oil
Leroy every DD person I have checked with told me to use only 40W oil with a
rating of CH2. Two brands which fit the bill and have a low ash content are Rotella and Delo 100. I believe Curt Sprenger has a link to the Petroleum Page that explains it all. Curt I've misplaced or lost my link to that page so if you could repost it I'd appreciate it. On 16/11/06, Leroy Eckert > > I'm also changing oil tomorrow. I've been using 15-40 Rotello. 40 weight oil
I've been using synthetic 15-40 oil in detroit's for 14 years now. I
would NEVER go back. I know a number of owner's that have made the switch and all are pleased. A number of plus's to it, reduced oil consumption, reduced smoke, plus the big advantage of extra engine protection. I;ve talked to the Detroit tech's that go to the fmca rally's and all agree there are big plus's to using the synthetic's. They also agree that if you use a multi-weight oil, it MUST be a synthetic. Work's for me...Bob 93pt Illinois |

40 weight oil
Leroy,
I changed my oil to 40 weight Rotella just before the RIV/RATS Ralley. I could not find it at any of the discount stores had to go to the Shell Distributor to purchase it. Howard Truitt Camilla, Ga. 86 PT40, 8V92 "Under The Waterfall" [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
