Day three power problem
I took the battery charger out of the bus. It is the original blue bird
one that weighs probably 50 pounds. I took the cover off of it and there are no reset buttons or fuses. When I plug it into power, the fan runs but there is no voltage at the output. Does this absolutely mean it is bad. I bought a nice little charger at walmart and hooked it up to the six batteries in the bus and it did not go into the charging mode I checked the output and there was nothing. I took the same charger to the gen battery that was weak and hooked it up and it went into the charging mode quickly registering 13.5 volts. So based on this can I condemn the six coach batteries and or the coach charger? The batteries are dated March 2002 and are interstate. I'll try not to send you off on another wild goose chase.
Your batteries are 5 years old and it is likely they are toast and time to be changed. If they belonged to me they would be gone. Just my opinion, because it is time to quit having the kind of fun you are having. <<.>> However, before you take them out you could make a wiring diagram of the installation for future reference, disconnect the batteries and place your little charger on the batteries independently and see if they will take a charge, one at a time. I'm guessing they will not. As for the charger I would not trash it yet. I do not know how yours works, if it has a float charge function, if it needs some kind of load to work etc. Someone else may know. I have a combination inverter/charger system. It has a sensor pad on one of the batteries presumably to shut off the charger if the batteries overheat. I have NAPA batteries and have had good luck with them. While you are at it, clean up all the connections for extended service, including the main ground and positive connection. While the batteries are out, check out the battery box and neutralize any corrosion etc. I would not hurt to paint it also if you have time and can get around the cold weather. I'm with Leroy. Those batteries are history. Time for new ones.
