Tooo much voltage!
About two years ago, my 82 35 FC began cooking my batteries with over
16 volts. I removed the alternator and regulator and the alternator shop bench tested both and found no problem. After reinstalling, still over 16 volts. I bought a programable Xantrex regulator and everything worked fine for two years, now nothing. I plugged the wiring to the origiinal regulator back in and the old problem is back, 16.1 volts. Tooo much voltage!
Does this coach have the remote regulator or alternator with internal
regulator? If remote, I'd suggest replacing it with internally regulated. Andy, are you saying you didn't use your alternator
for 2 years? The regulator for an alternator is a small black pack that fits in the alternator. It's what I have heard termed as "self excited" meaning it doesn't neet a battery voltage for voltage or load control. Sounds like you Xantrex has failed you too somehow. My alternator has an external voltage regulator that is mounted above the
batteries and has a small harness connecting it to the alternator. I unplugged the original two years ago and installed the Xantrax regulator. It worked fine for two years, now nothing. Jeff: Not sure that I agree with you on internal. I have lost 2
regulators recently and it is a royal pain in the *&%$ to get to under the bedroom floor. I think I'm going to explore external regulators that are convenient to replace. R.E. If the internal regulator is blowing, or whatever, what is causing this to happen. Now that you have had the same experience with the external regulator, I would certainly look deeper as to the root of the problem. Internal regulators are good quality.
