Greetings
Hey all,
I joined, hmm about a month back, but have been busy moving into the 'bird to get a chance to sit down and introduce myself. My name's Josh and I have a 78 Wanderlodge. I'm in Texas, and the paint is pretty faded on her, but just about all the equipment is still functional. The most painful thing for me thus far has been finding out that it was sold to me with a bad engine. The piston sleeve on number 1 is tore all to Hell. Luckily, I managed to track down a remanufactured engine that was a few years old for dirt cheap and it's going in next week! Once I get her back, I'll open the floodgate of questions I have talk to everyone soon! Joshua |

Josh, maybe forum members with your 3208 setup can offer some advice
on things to do while the block is out?????? I had a 3208 that lost oil pressure while on the road and it turned out to be a common problem with the oil pick up tube cracking and falling off in the pan. Birds dont bounce around as much as my truck did but who knows the application of your replacement engine. Hello Joshua,
Glad to have another FC owner on the forum. Sounds kinda odd that your 3208 engine had a bad sleeve. Some folks have had sleeves installed in their block but a stock 3208 doesn't have a sleeve. If yours is sleeved, it would seem you could put in a new one and save the existing engine. Just a thought. Hey backatcha Josh!
Welcome to the forum. Great to have another Texas based owner to come to the Lone Star Birds rallies. Eric forgot to mention he is the rally master for the next one here in San Antonio on April 13-15. Watch for more information from him. Where are you located in Texas? Read your "deal" and getting a bad engine... It's a shame when such human garbage with the morals lower than a snake knowingly takes advantage of someone on a major prchase without haviing the balls to acknowledge the situation and make good on it... A courtesy to maybe publish the name of the "screwer" so that anyone able to read will not have any further dealings with social scum of that calibre... Last nite I had a correct ending to what could have been a sticky situation on my end but it all worked out as I was dealing with a person of ethics... Greetings
Just got back in from taking the Harley for a spin and saw this comment.
Sorry, but "point, shoot, aim" comes to mind. Not enough info yet for such a terse response from a relatively anonymous post. We have no knowledge of the transaction other than the new guy, Josh, has a broken motor. He never said it was "knowingly" sold to him with a bad engine. He said: "The most painful thing for me thus far has been finding out that it was sold to me with a bad engine." End of story so far. For all we know, he bought it from a widow or off a consignment lot or from someone who didn't know the engine was bad and it had sat in a barn for 10 years. We don't even know if it was running when Josh bought it. I think it might be appropriate to get a little more info on the deal before we break out the nooses. Greetings
Joshua,
Glad to have you join us. I hate to hear about your engine. Just for future reference you might want to check with the forum membership for sources on items of need. You mentioned your paint, several of the members have had there buses painted in Mexico and saved a lot of money. Again welcome. Greetings
Sorry for the long response time. I honestly meant wall not sleeve.
They said the wall was all gouged to hell. Cat said it could be sleeved, but felt if I was going to spend the money to pull the engine it might as well be replaced with a reman. because other damage may have been suffered. Of course, this increased the price...but surprisingly their quote was mostly labor. Now, $13k to replace an engine is just too damned much! Eight grand of that was labor! Going in next week has turned into going in...well, now next week but a lot longer then that has transpired The mechanic Carl just seems to have too much work coming his way and as I'm staying at their Resort I can wait...for now. Been doing a lot of de-modifying and re-modifying of what the previous owner did. He pulled out a lot and added more. I suppose I could clean the big beast up and take some pictures.... I'm in San Antonio right now as well! Sad to say though, I'd be
surprised if the bird was ready to go anywhere by the 15th, but I'd be more then willing to stop by!
