Florescent 12V Lights

I am a new guy please bear with me. I have a question about the 12V
florescents in my 78FC. They say RGM Ind, Titusville, FL on the back.
The new Thin-lites won't fit the hole. I found the 12V florescent
rebuild in the files section (thanks), but where can I buy parts
(balast)? Thanks, Brad Bloxham, Yuma AZ.

Brad,
A lot of RV and Marine places will have the 12V ballasts.
If you're into improvements, you might want to consider low voltage halogen
or even LED lighting. In my 86 coach, I almost never had all the
flourescents working at one time. Good luck.

I have a 79FC33SB As mine are failing I am replaceing them with the
lights used in scanners and also computer cases.
Pros,
Easy to install I use glue
low power less than 1 amp
low cost 2 12" tubes with blast, wireing and tube protecters, 15$ at
Frys
good for 30K hours
for more light 2 sets can be installed in 1 housing
Cons
require warm up time 30 seconds to full brightness
light is a bright white

My next project is to install them at the top of the bin doors. this
will give me more light in the center of the coach, and I will drill
holes to allow the light into the bins as well.

another con is that the colder itis the longer it takes for the bulb
to come to full brightness
you will find decreased longevity of the bulb and ballast because it
is hard on both the bulb and ballast to run at less than optimum
brightness and temperatures
If the lamp fails to start instantly it will place a high current load
on the ballast if this load remains too long it can overheat the
ballast and cause premature failure
our ballasts run at 1 amp at 12 volts
In your case trying to warm of the bulbs for 30 seconds I would also
put a 1 or 2 amp fuse at the light for your own protection

Stephen 77fc35 no warm up time and good to 30 below

Brad,

I use the ones that Stephen Birtles sells. They work very well in cold
weather and we spend a lot of time in Nebraska and Sought Dakota around the
holidays. I got tired of the lights failing one at a time so I ordered
enough to replace all the ballasts. I haven't done them all yet but the
repaired ones come right on even in the cold after my bird has not been
plugged in for awhile. I had a interesting test a few weeks ago when I
forgot to turn off the mail switch. The fluorescents would still come on
but the batteries were too low to crank.
