Suspension Dump Light
Our '87 PT38 gets an intermittent dash Suspension Dump light condition.
Often the light will be off for hundreds of miles. About one third of the time the light is either bright or dim and is on/off every few seconds. This last trip the front air springs at times would not air up to max, close but not max. One time the front springs would not air up, had to reset everything and then they aired up to max. Hi Curt,
This may be the answer....or not.. My left rear air bag would not air up completely and I replaced it with a new leveler valve from Bluebird. Cost was 70 bucks. Solved the problem. This may be your problem as I assume your front is like mine and just has one leveler for the whole front system. Just a thought. Bob Lawrence 84 PT36 Tacoma, Wa. Thanks Bob and David,
In 2005 I replaced the left and front leveling valves, along with Clippard air/12V valves, all work together to make the leveling system function properly. Doesn't mean those valves are good today, they were replaced two years ago, could be junk in the system feeding them. I had no knowledge of them then and did not remove more that I had to, but may dig in there again, test the valves, take the two Clippard manifolds out and clean them, remove the air lines and blow them out as well, etc. Looks like I have some things to check out. Suspension Dump Light
Hey Curt, Under the heading of "no guarantee" you have the same
issue, the following story might help. In March 2004, on my maiden voyage back to TX from AZ, I experienced a problem with my tag axle being erratic in airing up. This was intermitent but included the Suspension Dump light staying on. I got back to Texas with only one pit stop to change out slipping alternator belts. Once back home I did the typical purchase of new tires, etc. and within two or three weeks I headed out to Charleston SC. While traveling through GA, I decided to swing by the Birds Nest in Fort Valley and ended up staying three nights. The morning I was leaving, the darn tag axle wouldn't air up so I walked over to the BB service dept and asked them to have a look. They sent a couple of Techs over to the campsite but by the time they got there the problem had gone away. The Techs immediately removed the outside front cover (the one with the quick release fastners) and told me that most likely the tag axle air clippard valve was sticking. (these valves are plainly marked on my 89WB) They changed it out, charged me 30 mins labor and $76 for the part and I was on my way over to Carolina again.
