I hate vinyl
I got out my heat gun and my new vinyl eraser wheel on my drill
today. I managed to clean off about three feet of four inch wide,
prehistoric, dried, cracked vinyl before the wheel was pretty much
worn down. At 19.95 per wheel I think it would be cheaper to hire
someone, and much easier on my arms. Let's see .33 foot bus, both
sides, top and bottom, that's 132 feet, plus another 8 for the back,
divided by 3, multiplied by 19.95, that's $931.00.
It is in too rough of a condition to just put new vinyl over it.
Maybe I will just wait till I am ready to have it painted and have
them media blast it all off. I will admit, however that it worked
faster on the parts that were not cracked and faded.

That is exactly why quality base coat clear coat was invented. My 17 year old

It is also why we own BB's because SOB's have vinyl graphics, most of them are
cracking, and the body has spider feet.

Ernie,
If you are feeling my pain I would suggest a couple of Advil.

Gardner,
Only a Suggestion...double tape off above the top and below the bottom
of that vinyl. Start with 150 sand paper and remove the bulk of the
vinyl. Then reduce down (up) to 320 or so for a good smooth finish. Then
re tape, paint, or if you like apply new vinyl.

It wasn't Ernie. It was Leroy. Please don't blame it on Ernie, he owns the
joint. lol
We Southern folks have a funny way of suggesting that you paint your coach with
base coat clear coat and it will be the last time you do so in your lifetime.
That was the message. I think???

Curt,
Considering allo the work to take it off, painting would be the
better method. I am really thinking of just having the whole thing
blasted and repainted. There are a couple of spots where the vinyl
looks like there is a little rust under it, so perhaps getting down
to the galvanized metal and addressing the rust is the best solution.
I just don't have the time or place to get into it that far. Perhaps
if I mowed lawns on the weekends I could raise the money???

Gardner, Try a product from 3M called "Vinyl and Adhesive Remover". I
get it from an auto paint supply store and you just spray it on and
let set for a few minutes. It softens the vinyl and the underlying
adhesive so it comes fairly easily. I have had good results with it.
