Kerry- did you find all the cruise control components behind the battery
compartment close to the engine?

Kerry- while lying on the ground under you battery compartment, there is
about a 3 inch wide black metal panel. That panel is located vertical and right
behind the battery compartment. 4 screws hold the cover to that and when those
are removed, your cruise control mechanism is there

Cruise control wiring on 82 Fc
I'm about to replace the vacuum cruise control on my 82 FC with a Rostra
electric unit due to
failure of the vacuum generator. There are five wires going to the vacuum
cruise control
actuator on the engine. Green, white, black, light brown, dark brown. Does
anyone who
what each wire does? The green is obviously a ground.
Where is the brain of the current cruise control and does anyone know how to
interpret its
wiring? I assume the brain is separate from the actuator on the engine. Is
that correct?

No, I haven't found any of them besides the actuator on the engine. Can you
describe
their location again? My batteries are on a pull out tray in the front left
compartment
under the driver's seat area. Are you saying the cruise control brain is in
that vicinity?

ON my 1983 FC-35 the vacuum pump is behind the the left driving light, there are
two plastic air lines connected to it.

That sounds better. I spent a lot of time recently in the battery compartment
replacing the
power steering hose and didn't notice anything there.
Yes, I am replacing it with a Rostra on the basis of your prior posts about it.
How do I tell which wire is which going into the old brain? Should there be a
wiring
diagram in the bluebox or are they labeled in any way?
I'll give you a call. Is your phone number in your profile? I think you sent
it to me once
when I first purchased the Rostra but now I can't find it. I've looked at your
pictures of the
retrofit on line.

On our 82 the "brain" was located on above the throttle pedal on the
firewall. All the connections you will need for the new unit will be in the
wiring harness connections to the brain. The harness from the new unit
will be routed to this area then the connections made there. If you are
using a rostra replacement I can help if you need it. Give me a call.

I just got your personal email and answered that. It might be easier if we
talk.

Cruise control wiring on 82 Fc
Found the cruise control brain this morning. It's was mounted directly in front
of the
driver's left knee. Got the old vacuum system removed and the new
brain/actuator
installed in the engine compartment (but not hooked up to the throttle yet).
All I need to
do now is hook up the wiring. I'll talk to Chuck Wheeler tonight to confirm his
technique.
There should be a plug in connector coming from the turn signal stalk cruise
switch which
should plug directly into the wiring for the new unit. I'll need to find the
speed signal
wires coming from the sensor on the rear wheel, hook up to the brake switch,
get 12 volts
and it should be ready to go. I doesn't look very simple to find the stalk
switch wires or
the speed sensor wires.
i have lots of wiring diagrams in my Bluebox, but nothing on the cruise wiring
that i could
find.
