Engine Water Temp
can anyone help with the correct running temperature for the CAT 3208T
in my 82 FC-35? The wanderlodge manual says 100 degrees over the outside temperature. Mine is running at about 200 degrees which is about 20 degrees higher. I am about to take it into the mountains so what is your advice before I travel? 82 FC-35 "Perfect Weekend" |

Engine Water Temp
The temp gauge on my old FC indicated 15-20 degrees higher than
actual. If you have access to an infrared heat gun, I would check on the accuracy first. Engine Water Temp
Can you tell when your fan clutch kicks in? Mine kicks in around 195 degrees or
so and immediately starts bringing down the temperature. If your gauge is accurate, I believe your fan clutch should be kicking in before it gets to the temperature you're seeing. Have you checked the radiator cap. It may not be holding adequate pressure. On my '85FC the fan will hold the temp to 190, + or - a couple of deg. This is on any hard pull. Like Scott says, check your gage first. Harold Prescott '85 FC35 Northern California |

Engine Water Temp
The fan clutch kicks in around 190 - 200 i think. I will check if this
drops the temp, as far as I remember the temp stays constant at just under 200. I have checked the rad cap it seems fine and the coolant level is right too. --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "jmoorelewy" > > can anyone help with the correct running temperature for the CAT 3208T > in my 82 FC-35? So, if I hammer on it too hard and the fan comes on it stays on until we drop off a very long hill. The fan comes on around 190 and turns off when the temp reaches 185. I have replaced my thermostats. They require 180deg.thermostats. Someone had put 160deg thermostats in, trying to get it to run cooler, I suppose. I think 160's made it smoke more. Caterpiller says 180's are correct. I don't know if all this will help or not. Harold Prescott '85 FC35 Northern California |
