Paint Match
Guys What is the best way to get a paint match for an 89 SP. I have
some numbers on the plate in the rad compartment on the curb side but the paint store could only tell me that the code that said base was a gray color & the other two codes could not tell him any thing. This is a really good paint store that has been around a while & the guy I was talking to had worked with Imron paint many years. He said he could still get the paint if I could get the right code. I had thought they could take a picture of it & get a match but he saiiiid that if there was metallic in it that the could not match it without the code from Imron. Has any one ever goot that from Blue Bird with the Body number? One color is Silver & the other is maybe Rose & a lighter color. Paint Match
Leroy My codes do not match LF-HS N8075 Base LF-HS W8916
Light & LH-HS W8917 Dark What ever they mean. They are on a metal tag & must mean something to someone. Are your paint codes 5 digits? My paint is BASF R-M Diamont base coat clear coat. Your silver may be Indian Silver Met 79773 and the Rose may be 81735. Do those numbers match? BB could not help me find the answer. If it is BASF your Imron dealer cannot help you. Leroy I would think that the Body no or a build sheet would have the
code on it. My paint guy said the first no came up as Gray. Do you think that is the color before the clear coat. Did Blue Bird think nobody would need those colors in the future. Maybe like Randy said. I'll give Ronnie Lamb a call next with the code I have. Did you get a good match? Don 89 SP 36' Butler, PA Ok, we tried. Try the Glasurit line of BASF instead of R-M Diamont, and see if the codes work. When I was trying to determine my paint BB (Benny) was able to give me the manufacturer from memory but not the codes. My understanding is 89-90 and some 91's were painted with BASF. Which lines, I do not know. It took me six months to figure mine out. Paint Match
I have four colors. Dark grey and light silver with Rose and Lagoon, a turquoise
color. BB did not have a record of the paint codes on my tag which is located on the rear frame behind the engine. There were no crossovers for Imron or equivalent. Once I determined the manufacturer it took me a while to find a supplier. The colors match perfectly and the paint is still beautiful. Check the BASF Glasurit line for codes. The base coat is the color, the clear gives it the shine. Otherwise, I don't have a clue. Jury duty. Just respectfully ask the questioning attorney why the defendant needs two court appointed attorneys. You will not be selected.lol Leroy Eckert 1990 WB-40"Smoke N Mirrors" Niceville, FL ----- Original Message ----- From: dspithaler@... Paint Match
My understanding from BB is DuPont paint was used. In my case my paint names are
Indian Silver Metallic 79773, Rose Metallic 81735, Medium Lagoon Metallic 81573 and Cumulus Grey (Dark)Metallic. 79780 all BASF R-M Diamont. That probably means that your Indian Silver is slightly different in color than mine. It is hard to believe that two paint lines would be used on the same coach but no two BB's are exactly alike. If the can was open spray it on the bus. There is a Glasurit and pre-Glasurit line. Somewhere along the line of posts someone here has the pre-Glasurit paint, I just do not remember who. The person that cracked my codes is a forum member who is a paint jobber who rarely posts. Since he is listed on the forum Member to Member here is his email. Lee Condosta, Wilmington, NC lcondosta@.... Good luck, isn't this fun and keep us posted. Leroy Eckert 1990 WB-40"Smoke N Mirrors" Niceville, FL ----- Original Message ----- From: dspithaler@... Paint Match
Lee was the one that told me that BASF said they had nothing to match my codes.
Of my 4, the only one that is the same as yours is the silver. Matching metallics otherwise is hard. My Dupont dealer did a good, but not perfect job. I gave them the door to my inverter compartment, which has all 4 colors inside and out. They started with what their computer could do, then spent two weeks fine tuning it. Make small changes, test, let it dry. Make another change. People see the difference when I point it out, but not otherwise. In most cases I painted to a natural break, but in a few I did some blending because it wasn't practical otherwise. The paint before Glasurit was Glaso-Max. Not sure if there was one or two Ss.
