Vintage License Plates

Up here in Washington State any vehicle that over 30 years old can
display the above plates. But if you have a motor home than that's
another story. Right now I'm doing battle with the DMV as to why I
can't receive one of these registrations and plates for the Rebel
Bird. The Rebel bird this coming year will be 30 years old and I'm
proceeding with vigor and maybe with a few letters to my
representatives in Olympia that my old coach will become a senior
citizen next year with it new plates. Oh yes part of the reason I'm
going down this road is that when you do get this special designation
you never haft to buy plates again and no more fees every year. Anyway
is there anyone out there that has an older rig like mine and has these
types of plates??

We put collector plates on our 80 this year, I believe around $160(goes
by weight of unit) for the rest of our ownership. It was costing us
over $80 for 6 months April though September, the only thing is we
cannot drive it in January.
Here in Wi. the vehicle has to be 20 years old so we should have done
it sooner,it did take us awhile(a few months) to get aprovel and the
plates but in the end it seems the right thing to have done.

Only needs to be 25 yrs old in CO. Got them for the
bird this year. They're good for 5 yrs and I'll never
need an emissions test again. It wasn't clear from
the written info about the plates whether they could
be obtained for a motorhome or not. They gave them to
me at the DMV without question.

Jon: Make sure you check ALL the requirments and regulations. Some
States will only let you drive a certian number of miles each year, or
just drive in Parades, or to Rallys or meets.
Of course, there is always a Rally--Somewhere--

Well the DMV gave me the go ahead for my vintage registration
yesterday. A few days ago when I first started to get this special
registration I hit a stone wall. The clerk said that I could not get
these plates as I would be sleeping in it!

Well I got the Washington State Vehicle Code book oft the internet
and read the particular section that deals with Vintage Vehicles.
Now guess what? No where in that section did it say anything about
sleeping or camping in your vintage vehicle. So I copied that
section and took it to another DMV office and explained the situation
to them and they called the Olympia (Main office) and they cleared
the way for me to get these plates and registration.

So next year when it come to my yearly registration for my rig I
will change my present tags to the Vintage tags and not haft to pay a
yearly charge for registration. Jon

Good news Jon. I used to live in Seattle & found the same type of
response many times when registering my boats & motorhomes. In Montana,
if it's over 11 years, you pay a one time fee (mine was $260 for 82
PT40) & that's it forever. Same thing with boats, trailers & all cars.
