Alvie I've had good luck with twin IOTA 55amp. You need a single IQ4 smart
charger for dual chargers. Do not try to use two chargers each with their
own smart charger. This will cause them to conflict. You need the single IQ4
to regulate both IOTAs. You should be able to get both IOTAs and the IQ4 for
between $300 and $350. If you want top-of-the line then I would go with
Xantrex equipment

Rob,

Will both chargers fit in the compartment where the present one is?
The 3000 Watt inverter is also in that compartment. Do both chargers
come on at the same time? Is the Xantrex quite a bit more money?
Thanks again.

Alvie my IOTAs are located in the same bay as the BBQ and tool box so I
can't speak to their placement in the battery compartment. I seem to recall
that others have put them there but not sure. If you go with Xantrex you
could use two Tru-charge 40s and that will likely cost close to $800 for two
of them.

I've heard good reports about the Xantrex 40+ three-stage charger. See:
<http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/69/p/1/pt/7/product.asp>

Or, you may want to upgrade both your charger and inverter with a new
inverter-charger.

Alvie, Pete's suggestion for an upgrade to an inverter/charger combination
is certainly worth considering. If you could get anything for your existing
inverter it would make the $$$ numbers better.

I will check to see what model inverter I have tonight after work to
see if it might have some resale value. Would installation
instructions that come with a new unit be adequate for an
electrically challenged person to do the install? Also I am not quite
clear on why two chargers are required instead of just one like I
have now. Is it for redundancy?

First off you might want to contact Curt Sprenger as I believe he has done
some of this work. I believe you need two chargers to reduce the time it
takes to put a charge into 8 batteries. I have eight 6V golf carts for the
house and the more chargers the better. It isn't redundancy like the two
water pumps

Alvie you could also talk to Greg OConnor who I believe has recently put in
L16 batteries (floor polisher, electric forklift batteries) and a new
Xanatrex system. Greg and Curt are pretty knowledgeable guys
